I learned about so many LGBT artists I‘d never heard of. I think I‘ll buy my own copy to keep for reference.

This is a great, really well researched book. From the title I thought it was going to be a memoir, but it's a comprehensive history of gay musicians, their lives and work, and the sociopolitical context they worked and lived in. Really well written and informative.

I spent 2018 reading books for the ALA Over the Rainbow Booklist committee where we narrowed 469 adult LGBTQ books down to 10 (but also 50 something recommended titles in fiction and non fiction that got at least three votes.) More info here: https://www.glbtrt.ala.org/overtherainbow/archives/658

This is a history of LGBT people in pop music, mostly in the English-language market. There's a lot to tell, both of mainstream artists (and managers, producers, etc.) and of independent artists in niche markets. At times it reads less like a narrative than a biographical encyclopedia, with a paragraph-long bio for one artist after another. But it also introduced me to some important experiences and to some excellent music, so I'll call it a pick.

Bibliogeekery This sounds interesting! #queerbooks 6y
swynn @Bibliogeekery It is! Especially interesting to me were the times & places where sexual difference was (relatively) accepted. I knew about Weimar Berlin, but not about NYC's "Pansy Craze" in the 1920s, or about the lesbians and bis who created the blues. Very enlightening! 6y
