Pizza Bomber: The Untold Story of America's Most Shocking Bank Robbery
Pizza Bomber: The Untold Story of America's Most Shocking Bank Robbery | Jerry Clark, Ed Palattella
6 posts | 5 read | 6 to read
On August 28, 2003, in the suburbs of Erie, Pennsylvania, a pizza delivery man named Brian Wells was accosted by several men who locked a time bomb around his neck. They then ordered him to rob a bank. After delivering the money, he would receive clues to help him disarm the bomb. It was one of the most ingenious bank robbery schemes in history, known as Collarbomb by the FBI.It did not go according to plan.Wells, picked up by police shortly after the robbery, never found the clues he needed. Investigating the crime after his grisly death, the FBI soon discovered that Wells was not, in fact, an innocent victim. He was merely the first co-conspirator to fall in a bizarre trail of death following the crime.Jerry Clark, the lead FBI Special Agent who cracked what became known as the Pizza Bomber case, and investigative reporter Ed Palattella, who followed it from the beginning, tell the complete story, from the inside, for the first time.INCLUDES PHOTOS"

This is probably the earliest I‘ve ever posted my #bookspin list, but I‘m pretty sure that I‘ve got it set the way I want. Crossing my fingers that the tagged book ends up being a picked number this month!

#GetMovin Thanks to a previous post from @TricksyTails I became completely absorbed in the craziest, most bizarre true crime EVER🤪 #WayDownWeGo as I binged watched all 4 episodes of Evil Genius on Netflix and then searched the internet 😱🤯 #This💩is🍌🍌 If you saw the series I‘m curious to hear your thoughts on Brian Wells?!!! I‘m putting my comment under a spoiler tag.

Cinfhen Brian was a TOTAL VICTIM!!! His family deserves justice. What a travesty and why did the prostitute wait so long to come forward ?!?!!! 6y
vivastory There was a decent movie loosely based on this case called 30 Minutes or Less. It starred Jesse Eisenberg. 6y
Cinfhen I somehow missed that @vivastory I‘ll need to go back down that rabbit hole 🤔😳thanks for sharing 6y

reginacharlotte I binge watched this too! A friend from Western PA suggested it, the Western PA part is why I even started watching... I usually can't watch things like this. I did not expect to see that poor man die right on the screen. I felt so bad for Mr. Wells and his family, to have to learn about his death, to see him practically pleading for help, and then for him body to be treated the way it was. 6y
reginacharlotte And as for Marjorie and Rothstein- what's the right word for them? Sociopaths? Everything they did together was evil. I hate thinking how they together killed and tried to cover up that poor man's body in the freezer, and had him there almost a month?! He was just there, in someone's garage, and regular people would just drive past without any way of knowing what horrors they were passing. 6y
Centique Just read the Wikipedia page on this. That is possibly the most bizarre crime I‘ve ever read about it. Awful! 😳 6y
Cinfhen @reginacharlotte I‘m from PA, so I was intrigued as well. I was horrified as well to watch Mr. Wells die on camera. I‘m still in shock!!! But what a sin to place Wells as part of the crime. I‘m baffled that law enforcement would reach that decision considering all the evidence and where the testimonies were coming from. 6y
Cinfhen It was soooo crazzy @Centique just when u thought it couldn‘t get any stranger.....it did!!!! 6y
Librariana @Cinfhen - Hubby and I watched the first two episodes tonight and will finish it tomorrow 😁 We're also completely hooked! 6y
AmyG @Cinfhen That the prostitute is pregnant with Wells‘s baby? If not for her, he might be alive. Wild story. 6y
Cinfhen That poor family @AmyG I can‘t even imagine having to see those images 😭😭😭😭 6y
Cinfhen It‘s so hard to believe people live that way @Librariana 6y
AmyG @Cinfhen I couldn‘t believe they showed him blowing up. And then they had to cut his head off to preserve the collar? His poor family indeed. Horrific 6y
Mdargusch I‘m intrigued. @emilyhaldi we need to watch this! 6y
Cinfhen I think not knowing anything made this story even more bizarre and shocking @Mdargusch 6y
Mdargusch I‘m not going to google then. 6y
DGRachel @dsfisher I think we need to watch this! 6y
TheWordJar This is our planned viewing for the weekend. I vaguely remember the news story, but from the seeing the trailer, it looks insane! 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker I remember this happening so when I saw there was a docuseries I had to watch it. It‘s really sad what happened to that poor guy. It‘s obvious that Marjorie and Rothstein spearheaded the whole thing. They had two people confess and yet only Marjorie was in jail and not even for that poor mans death! 6y
Cinfhen @That-Bookish-Hiker it makes me so mad that law enforcement wanted to turn Brian Wells into a conspirator 😡and his poor family. Heartbreaking 6y
Cinfhen @TheWordJar @DGRachel @Mdargusch let me know your thoughts after U watch!!! 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Cinfhen me too! There is no way that man conspired with this crazies. I was pretty upset too that the prostitute offered him up as the person they should use. And then to wait so long to come forward and clear his name. 6y
Cinfhen I agree!!! I was really disappointed in her...and Brian Wells may have fathered her baby 😳 c‘mon wouldn‘t you want justice served right away!?!??? They never really explained the other pizza guy‘s involvement or reason for being involved, did they @That-Bookish-Hiker 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Cinfhen I don‘t think they did. I thought maybe he was the guy who owned the house where Brian Wells and the prostitute went to but I may have remembered that wrong. Or maybe he bought drugs from the guy who owned that house and overheard their plan. I think that was one theory the police were going on. 6y
Cinfhen Oh yeah, that sounds vaguely familiar....so you think he OD‘ed or killed himself because he may have been afraid of Marg & Rothstein @That-Bookish-Hiker Because Ken Barnes, the fishing buddy was the drug dealer who owned the house and eventually gave evidence (which he later changed to say there was no meeting the day before the robbery) The whole thing was so EFFFED UP 6y
GripLitGrl Watched the first two episodes last night can't wait to finish it! Soooo twisted & good so far 6y
That-Bookish-Hiker @Cinfhen he probably Od‘ed but I wouldn‘t be surprised if they had a hand in helping him OD. 6y
eanderson I saw this and thought about watching it... Definitely will check it out now! 6y
Librariana @Cinfhen - We're watching Part 3 right now! 😁 6y
TricksyTails I just finished the second episode! 😳 Marge is intense! Will report back about Brian Wells once I‘m done with all the episodes. 6y
emilyhaldi I've watched the first 3 episodes and it is SO bizarre 🤯 need to get to the last one!!! Sorry @Mdargusch started already but you should def watch with dad!! 6y
Cinfhen I‘m waiting to hear your final thoughts @GripLitGrl @Librariana @TricksyTails @emilyhaldi it‘s beyond bizarre!!! 6y
Cinfhen You should definitely watch @eanderson 😉👍🏻 6y
TricksyTails Just finished episode 3. Her poor dad. How heartbreaking that he called his own daughter a good liar and said that she doesn‘t know the meaning of love. Poor dad. 😞💔 On to the last episode! 6y
Cinfhen I forgot about the dad @TricksyTails 😢😢 I do believe Marjorie‘s parents were not aware about how to treat/handle her mental illness so instead they showered her with gifts ( which ultimately led to her desire for more) 6y
CSeydel I had read about this case, but I didn‘t know there was a documentary! Not sure I could watch it but yeah it‘s a hell of a crime 😬 6y
Reviewsbylola Idk anything about this but she looks looney. 6y
TricksyTails I finished the final episode. Wow! This was nuts! Seeing how the actions of Marge and Rothstein affected their loved ones made me so sad. How Rothstein‘s best friend was in disbelief. 😞 But my heart breaks for Brian Wells and his family. Do you think Hoopsick was telling the truth at the end? I keep wondering if Marge had gotten the proper medical treatment for her mental illness would it have saved all those lives. What a crazy story. 6y
Cinfhen @Reviewsbylola YOU should definitely watch this!!!! 6y
Cinfhen I never thought Wells was guilty but I‘m not so sure I believed Hoopsick‘s story @TricksyTails I‘m glad she cleared his name, for the family‘s sake. Even if Marge would have gotten help, I still believe she was evil and would always be looking to test the boundaries. Thanks for your original post!!! Any other suggestions??? 6y
TricksyTails I‘m glad you enjoyed it and that we could discuss this craziness together! Suggestions on Netflix? 🤔 Hmm...I‘m sure you‘ve seen Mindhunter by now. Not true crime, but I laughed my arse off watching the new Ali Wong comedy special! 😂 I‘ll let you know if I come across anything else crazy. Please send suggestions my way too! Oh! Have you read 6y
Cinfhen Have not read that book yet, although I finally ordered my copy. I honestly watch VERY LITTLE tv so I have tons of series to catch up on. My hubby on the other hand watches HOURS of crap! It was really fun discussing with you and the others...#buddybinge 💜💚🧡💛 @TricksyTails (edited) 6y

I don‘t know why it is that when I‘m or of my routine i can‘t stay current on Litsy! I hate it - and then I can barely bring myself to open the app out of guilt... is that weird?

I‘m still chugging along on The Hobbit which has been a great story 👍🏻

Right now, my family is finishing a Mother‘s Day celebration and watching Evil Genius on Netflix. This is about “The Pizza Bomber” in Erie, PA. So close to my hometown, I remember this happening.

Smangela I have not read the tagged book, but had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jerry Clark at Gannon University during my graduate degree - I anticipate reading it after finishing this documentary. This is such a strange, sad, fascinating case. (edited) 6y
quietjenn We just watched the whole thing tonight. So bizarre. 6y
