bailedI really wanted to like this book/series. It‘s one of my favorite periods of history, and the idea of a surviving son of Henry VIII is fascinating. Unfortunately I could not engage with the characters, none of them rang true, and OMG was the action slow. Ultimately, I just couldn‘t accept it as a possible alternate history, and had to quit.
pickSo if you like historical fictions or fantasies that are heavy politics, this is a good one for you. Even though it messes with history, the author brought in names familiar to anyone who followed real Tudor history as well as the key rumour/public opinions of Anne herself. Really interesting concept and with it being so very heavy on the politics (and therefore relatively slower paced), I think it's the perfect size. I'll def continue the series
I finished book two of Les Mis so time for a good old alternative history book. Imagine Anne Boleyn had a son and didn't get high key behead by her paranoid husband
pickLaura Andersen has written her first novel based on the idea that Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn had a son named William who lived to become King of England. I could not put it down. It was an enjoyable, easy read, with a story full of wonderful fictional character's mixed in with well-known historical figures.
I'm usually not a fan of alternative histories, but I really enjoyed this trilogy. The first book is on sale today.

Ok, I thought I did worse than this. 9 books from Bay Books in San Ramon. I tried to rationalize this by telling myself that anything I bought that I didn't like could go right into the little free library that I've asked for as a Mother's Day gift. I'm most excited about The Boleyn King. The thought that Jane Grey could still be alive? Count me in!
Rereading this so I can read the rest of the series. If you're fans of the Tudor period, you'll very much enjoy this series. Its a reimagining of history and asks the question, what if Anne Boleyn gave Henry VIII a son?

pickI love the Tudor era and this trilogy is a fantastic addition to it. It's an alternative take on what happened if Anne had produced a son. Really interesting on blending history and fiction to create a fully realized alternative narrative.
