Mehso-so

A dual timeline novel (present & 1857-1875) where both the protagonists, Dr. Jacob Thacker and Nemo ("no man") a slave purchased by Dr. Frederick Johnston, for his exceptional knife skills, were somehow connected. When bones were unearthed by the renovation crew at the college campus cellar, it triggered Dr. Thacker to investigate. The truth was more than he could comprehend & may be connected to his family's past.

Only in America would we imagine life without the border of anxiety. And that is why these tranquilizers are so completely overprescribed here.

This was a #blameitonlitsy pick for a book that takes place within 100 miles of me for Book Riot's Read Harder challenge this year. It's still #TBR.

After my long perusal at Waterstones here are the books I chose!

There are some obscure ones here. Has anyone read any of these?

I've already read My Name is Leon and loved it. This copy is a gift for a friend. 🙂

mcctrish I've read The Bear ( loosely based a real event in Algonquin Park close to where I live and right by my in-laws cottage) 8y
Libby1 @mcctrish - it's not my usual thing but wanted to give it a try. What did you think of it? 8y
bookwrm526 I read The Resurrectionist, I thought it was good. It's set in a fictionalized version of the city I live in (edited) 8y

#ReadJanuary #setinyourtown Most of the books I know of set in my current town are civil war history, but then I remembered this historical mystery that was an interesting read.

LeahBergen I have this waiting on my shelf. 👍🏼 8y
bookwrm526 @LeahBergen I enjoyed it, though I did like the past storyline more than the modern one 8y

I'm going to have to sit with this one for a little while. It's an excellent story with some interesting, important, and timely themes.
