Another unputdownable, twisty, cat-and-mouse thriller by the author of With Malice about a girl who claims to have a psychic vision that could help find a missing teenager.

I'm not crazy about this cover, but I loved Eileen Cook's first book, With Malice, and this is turning out to be a suspenseful, psychological thriller aimed at YA readers.

Panpan

The mystery was pretty much solved by page 150 and it ruined the whole story for me. Not a single one of the characters were likable and that‘s usually fine but it made me not care about the book. There was some comments about mental illness that were really gross, slut shaming and victim blaming and all around it just wasn‘t good. I wanted to finish all the Halloween books I‘d bought but wish I would have skipped this one or read a review first.

1 Dracula because he‘s lived literally forever. Even if he bites me.
2 Grammatical error because I probably wouldn‘t even notice it, a tear would make me crazy
3 Visually
4 Dog ear but cry about it.
5 A crime fighting werewolf that stops a serial killer so I have both.

I‘m horrible with decision making.

I still haven't managed to start this one yet, but it's told from Paige's and Skye's perspectives

Bailedbailed

2/5 star. Potentially the worst characters ever. Full review at https://libraryofpointedulac.tumblr.com/post/166194161272/the-hanging-girl-by-ei...

BookishBrooklyn That‘s how I feel about one of the books I‘m reading for review atm 😼 7y
laurieluna Just posted my review on Goodreads as well...dreading posting it on #readersfirst but I have to be honest. 7y

Sophoclessweetheart @miralunasbooknook I posted mine to RF last night. I have no qualms leaving a negative review. In my experience, they‘re just as helpful as positive ones so long as the publisher/author can take creative criticism x 7y
laurieluna @Libraryofpointedulac I do believe it could be a good book if the characters had a bit more depth. If I could stomach stereotypes I would have finished it. 7y
Sophoclessweetheart @miralunasbooknook yes, same for me. The characters ruined it x 7y

Bailedbailed

Not even adding a picture. Bailing. The characters are just too stereotypical and I can't take them seriously. I so wanted to know where the story went but I can't read those characters any more. 😧

TrishB 😔😔 not good! 7y
laurieluna @TrishB the main character is meant to be 18, she reads like a 14 year old. I haven't bailed on a book in months, gutted I had to do it but my brain couldn't take any more cringe. 7y
TrishB I thinking bailing is fine! Too little time. 7y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Ughhh I had this one on my list!!! 😱 7y
laurieluna @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks it might still be a good book for you! The story was intriguing but I'm not one for stereotypical characters. 7y

When you unintentionally match your baby to your current read 😂
10 chapters in and quite enjoying it. Finding it hard to relate to the main protagonist, but the overall story is keeping me engaged so far. #readersfirst

Megabooks I always try to have them match 😂😂 7y
Sophoclessweetheart I‘m reading this right now too and I am loving it though all of the characters are so unlikable. X 7y
laurieluna @Noonlightreader I'm just finding it so hard to connect to any of them, they all seem either really bitchy or overly sweet and trusting. 7y

Sophoclessweetheart I hate them all 😂😂 7y
laurieluna @Noonlightreader I'm currently struggling through the good cop bad cop trope in chapter 10. I keep stopping and starting because its just so cringe worthy. 7y
Sophoclessweetheart Oh god yes!! 7y
howlinglibraries @miralunasbooknook @Noonlightreader I just finished this one recently and I hated the characters so much 😒😂 7y
laurieluna @howlinglibraries seems like it's a popular opinion. I still haven't finished chapter 10...🙈 7y
laurieluna @Noonlightreader @howlinglibraries well if this doesn't pick up in the next 20 pages (on page 80) I'm bailing. For the first time in ages. 7y
Sophoclessweetheart Do not blame you. The characters are starting to grate on me now. It started off good despite the unlikable characters but I‘m starting to bore. X 7y
howlinglibraries @miralunasbooknook I honestly wouldn‘t blame you at all. I felt like everyone got progressively MORE unlikeable as the book continued and by the end I even hated the MC (she had been the only character I even remotely liked for the first 95% of the book). 7y

Plans to start The Hanging Girl this weekend are on track! Finished Runemarks and Blood's Game this week, and I'm now over half way through my 3 other reads so I feel safe to start this. Already read the first chapter and I'm liking it so far, although the scepticism about tarot reading from the main character irked me somewhat. What do others think? #readersfirst

Mehso-so

I really wanted to love this book, but by the end of it, I gave it 3.5 stars. It was a fun story, but the TROPES. There was so much girl-on-girl hate and the "poor vs rich" idea was so heavy. I could've appreciated it in a "social commentary" sort of sense if Paige, the kidnapping victim, hadn't been such an atrocious "mean girl" trope. And then the ending just wrecked any hopes I had for it. ?

Another one for the #tbrbingo thanks to Readers First. Looking forward to this as an amateur card reader! Tarot book pictured goes with a deck I was gifted when I turned 16. It was published the year I was born. #readersfirst

Sophoclessweetheart Ahhh!! I hope my copy arrives today 🙊♥️ 7y
DeborahSmall Looking forward to this too, I brought my old deck out too after reading first chapters on Readers First x 7y

laurieluna @DeborahSmall @Noonlightreader there are quite a few of us on Readers First now, should maybe start a hastag! Share thoughts of the books we receive etc 7y
DeborahSmall Great idea! 7y
DeborahSmall @ScorpioBookDreams introduced me to it, I've had some great books since joining 7y
laurieluna @DeborahSmall same! Some great books coming up for review. 7y
TrishB I'm in too 👍 7y
quietlycuriouskate At the risk of asking a stupid question, what is Readers First? 7y
laurieluna @River_Voice not stupid at all! It's a UK based review website. They release the opening chapter of a couple of to be released books, which you read and review. They enter everyone who reviews into a draw to win that book. All they ask is when you receive it you read it and do a full review on their site. You get points for each review which you can then 'spend' on other books they have featured. X 7y
quietlycuriouskate @miralunasbooknook Thanks! I definitely need to look into that. 😃 7y

These are the only two books I have set myself to read, as if I set any more, I know it's unlikely I will finish them. 1 fiction (arc), 1 nonfiction 😁

I like this cover better than one tagged on litsy. Also, it's being given away on Goodreads currently. No I don't have a link, but I know I put in for it. #coverlove #YAedition
