3 posts | 4 read | 1 to read
With words in both English and Spanish, a brightly illustrated counting book tells of one determined Grandma who is not willing to leave her family on her birthday and so sets out doing various tasks, like making two pots of tea and three pounds of corn for the tortillas, in order to delay Señor Calavera's request to go with him.

Published in 2003, Just a Minute won the Pura Belpre Award along with the golden kite award. This is a story about Grandma Beetle needing to do chores around the house before she is able to go with Senor Calavera. I would read this story to my classroom because it has excellent illustrations and a good message about being patient. It also includes culture that some students may not be familiar with to learn more about.

This folklore/traditional literature picture but would be used in my classroom for a read aloud. The book is awarded the Pura Belpre for the vivacious illustrations. This book is about grandma Beetle and senor Calavera. When Senor Calavera arrives unexpectedly at grandma Beatles door he request that she leaves with him right away but grandma beetle is not yet ready so she trickes him to be able to stay longer to be to see her family.

SofiaRoselli I found this lesson plan to use in the classroom for multiple activities. It includes curriculum areas, multiple standards, objectives, resources and a variety of activities for the classroom. 6y
SofiaRoselli Since this is a bilingual book, it has UDL strategy 2.4, promote understanding across languages. ESOL strategy 24, incorporate the culture in the language of second language learners in your curriculum is included with the Mexican culture placed in the book.

DrSpalding I like that you have selected a book that teaches about culture and mathematics. Bilingual books should be in your classroom library. I also like that when you cite a resource, you say that it is one that you would use in your future classroom. Now you need to make sure that you do. 6y
