Delaware, the morning of April 19. Senior Skip Day, and April Donovans eighteenth birthday. Four days after the Boston Marathon bombing, the country is still reeling, and Aprils rare memory condition has her recounting all the tragedies that have cursed her birth month. And just what was that mysterious gathering under the bleachers about? Meanwhile, in Nebraska, Lincoln Evans struggles to pay attention in Honors English, distracted by the enigmatic presence of Laura Echols, capturer of his heart. His teacher tries to hold her classs interest, but she cant keep her mind off what Adrian George told her earlier. Over in Idaho, Phoebe is having second thoughts about the Plan mere hours before the start of a cross-country ploy led by an Internet savant known as the Mastermind. Is all her heartache worth the cost of the Assassins machinations? The Light Fantastic is a tense, shocking, and beautifully wrought exploration of the pain and pathos of a generation of teenagers on the brinkand the hope of moving from shame and isolation into the light of redemption.

That was beautiful and heartbreaking and hopeful. It was full of little surprises, connections, ripples, and I loved it so much. This is a must read for teens, those who love them, everyone.

Well, this grabbed me from the first page. It's told from multiple points of view, so I'm trying (as April says in the book) connect the dots. I suspect that this book will slay me.

Quirkybooknerd Keep me updated because this is on my TBR but I may need to move it to the top of the list 7y

I don't know what to pick! I can at least start one more book for #LitsyPartyofOne and these were literally the four I pulled off of the top of my tbr. I'm thinking The Light Fantastic, but I've been staring at In the Shadow of the Banyan since the puppy pulled it off my table this morning and tried to eat it.

I feel slightly human (though three hours of errands leave me desperate for a nap) today, so I rewarded my adult activities of returning library books and renewing my car tags with a stop at my closest indie, BookBar. I picked up these goodies and wish I could curl up with one, a cup of tea, and the dog, but I promised my partner I'd go to a movie with her this afternoon. Since, ya know, I kind of ruined our whole break by being sick.

Notafraidofwords My break got ruined too. & on top of that, got my bf sick too for his break. 8y
Skeebies05 What movie? :) 8y
bookishkai @Skeebies05 we're going to see Sing. Thankfully we're going to a (relatively) early showing and I'll still be able to go to bed at a decent hour. 8y

This book was a harrowing, realistic read that opens up conversation into a very serious real life issues plaguing the teenagers of today; catfishing, online bullying, sexual harassment, racism, etc. It makes a case that more mental health help is needed as well as a need to erase the stigma for using those services. It opens up the conversation and issues that most people want to forget exist. This book is something everybody should read.

Holy cow, what just happened? 7 different voices build a tightly woven narrative of a tragic school day. Totally engaging, beautifully structured, this was one helluva read. Full review will be on my blog in a couple of days - I need some processing time first. But read it, it's awesome. With thanks to Netgalley.

BookishFeminist What just happened is that just flew onto my TBR 😱😜 8y

Too many points of view and to scattered for me to get involved with, or care for, the characters. Didn't do anything for me and I skimmed through the last 40% of the book.

Next up on the ARC pile.

AliceInWonderLibrary Make sure you pay attention when a new character is introduced because it often doesn't restate their location and I had to go back to figure out where people were. 8y

Mehso-so

I got my hands on an uncorrected proof of this novel and I really liked it. It was a little rough around the edges but that is to be expected. The story was similar to This Is How It Ends in that it took places over a short amount of time (3 hours) with multiple view points during that time frame.

Crash I have this on my ARC pile. Must move it up the pile :) 8y

Me: I think I'll go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight, I'll just read for 20 minutes before I go to bed.
4.5 hours later....
