Here‘s how I‘m doing on Netgalley. I‘m very behind on reading and reviewing books but I hope participating in #roll100 this year will help me reduce the number of ARCs I have to read. At this point, I‘ll have to read more than 100 of these ARCs just to catch up. I‘ll just have to see how I do on #roll100 for the rest of the year but I‘m feeling optimistic this month.

I saw this post on this Facebook group I‘m in. I didn‘t know people were using Amazon as a library. I wouldn‘t do that. I have Kindle Unlimited and I use Libby. If people want to do this then they should sign up for a library card or Kindle Unlimited.

5feet.of.fury Yes! These poor authors get charged more on the returns than the royalties from the purchases! So uncool. 1mo

I saw this today in a Facebook group I‘m in. I‘ve never tried reading my height but I like the idea. However, I don‘t know if it would work for me because I read more digital books than physical books but maybe it could work if I‘m only reading books physically.

5feet.of.fury That‘s cute! I do get a lot from the library physically & digitally, so wouldn‘t work for me either but it‘s an interesting measurement 😂 1mo

I saw this advertised on Facebook and wanted to try it out. I filled out their questionnaire and they put me on their waiting list. I have no idea who they‘re going to match me with. What if they can‘t find anyone who reads multiple genres like me? If not then at least I tried it out.

I‘m sharing how I‘m doing on Netgalley now. I posted reviews on books that I didn‘t want to review previously but other than that, I‘m still requesting books and taking on more Read Now books. I‘m thinking that next year, I want to focus on reading my Netgalley books. Hopefully, I‘ll be in the mood to read them by then because since my dog passed away on 10/25, I really haven‘t been in the mood to read them.

I found another alternative to Everand since I cancelled my Everand subscription. I subscribed to another audiobook service called Anyplay and it says that it has unlimited listening. I have a 7 day free trial for it right now. I‘m looking forward to trying it out. I also signed up for a 30 day free trial of Kobo Plus but I didn‘t find anything I wanted to read on there so I cancelled my subscription to Kobo Plus.

https://bookriot.com/scribd-everand-unlimited-ebook-subscription/

This is why I cancelled my subscription. If I kept my subscription, would me and everyone else be forced to switch to the new credit based system? Well either way, I‘m done. They‘re no longer going to be “the Netflix for books”. I hope someone else will make a subscription service that is like a Netflix for books but until they do, I still have Libby and Audible that I can use.

kelli7990 When I used Everand, I never experienced any limits on my listening like some customers have. I was always able to find books I wanted to read and my listening truly was unlimited. Maybe I never experienced issues with my books expiring because I was just casually using the service and not constantly using it to listen to audiobooks. As the saying goes,”If it ain‘t broke, don‘t fix it.” I just wonder if they got greedy or something. 3mo
Bookwormjillk I got the pop up to switch but didn‘t do anything. I have a few books planned for November and I‘ll see how that goes. 3mo

I decided to cancel Everand. I don‘t like that they‘re trying to be like Audible. I signed up for this service when it was still Scribd back in 2020 during the pandemic and I stayed subscribed when they changed their name to Everand. I liked them because of the unlimited listening with no credits but now, they want to be like Audible which sucks. I‘ll try to use their service as much as I can before my subscription ends.

I just saw this on my Everand app. Why are they doing this? So basically, this is similar to Audible except instead of credits, you have unlocks. I don‘t like it. Will my subscription be worth keeping if I decide to stay with my current plan? I already have Audible. I don‘t want something that‘s just like Audible. I‘m disappointed because I signed up for this service in 2020 during the pandemic. What‘s wrong with having unlimited listening?

Bookwormjillk Ugh I hadn‘t seen this. I‘m already mad at them for cutting off my access to a book I was in the middle of the other day. 3mo

I‘ve been on Netgalley since 2017. I‘ve never requested too many books on Netgalley before but I know that it‘s going to take a long time to catch up. I like being approved for books. The logical part of my brain is saying that there‘s no way I have the energy or time to take all of these books on but the delusional part of my brain says that I do. I was doing so good not requesting more to read and then I went on today and requested more.

ShananigansReads Me and my 21% ratio nodding along with everything you just said.

I wonder if anyone is running #NetgalleyNovember this year, I need to participate.

Another thing I‘m doing to help me read my Netgalley ARCs is using text to speech. If the ebook on the Netgalley app has the text to speech option then I use it but if it doesn‘t then I have another reading app with text to speech in it called PocketBook Reader and recently, I discovered that Siri can read my Netgalley books to me. I had to highlight all the words on the page that I wanted her to read but it worked. No apps had to be downloaded.

I saw this on Instagram from an account I follow. I wish I could ghost my Netgalley TBR pile and read whatever I want but I feel like I can‘t because if I do then I won‘t catch up. I‘ve stopped requesting books but I have 5 pages of pending requests on Netgalley from books I already requested. I‘ve been approved for more but I‘m also waiting to see what else I get approved for.

willaful I gave up requesting years ago because it turned reading into a chore. Luckily I have extremely good library access. 3mo

I said last night that after I finish my October TBR of 67 books that I‘m going to turn into a Book Zombie but now, I have 712 Netgalley ARCs to read so it looks like I‘m going to be a Book Zombie past October. It might take me until 2025 to get out of my Book Zombie Era and turn back into a normal person.

I probably won‘t finish my digital or physical TBR of books that I own but at least I have a chance of finishing my Netgalley TBR. I have 600+ books on my Netgalley TBR but right now, I‘m not adding on any more books to it. I‘m just waiting to see if I get approved or declined for the books I‘ve requested and whatever gets approved will be added on but that‘s it.

This picture is from the Instagram account dogmombooklover. I can definitely relate to this. That‘s why my Netgalley TBR has 600+ books on it and I‘m still waiting to see if I get approved or declined for the books I requested. I‘ve been approved for a lot already but I‘ve been declined for some books too. I‘m determined to stop requesting this time because my Netgalley TBR is out of control and I need to catch up.

kelli7990 It made me sad when Harlequin Romance declined my requests for some of their books because I enjoy their books. A lot of the books I got declined for were books I really wanted to read but fortunately, I found them on Libby. I either asked my library to buy the books or I added them to my TBR on Libby. 4mo

These images are from Instagram. This is the story of my life right now so I‘m participating in the #hauntedshelf this month and I‘m on team #skeletoncrew. My goal is just to make a dent in my Netgalley TBR without adding more Netgalley ARCs to it but I keep adding more to it. I have 3 pages of pending requests and I found more Read Now books to add on but I download them to my Netgalley app as soon as I get them or as soon as I get approved.

I saw this on Instagram and it‘s perfect for me. I see that I‘m not the only one that is experiencing this. My Netgalley profile says that I was approved for 333 books. A lot of them are Read Now books. I overcommitted to Netgalley ARCs. It‘s going to take a long time for that number to come down. I want to find more books on there to read but I really should read what I committed to instead of adding on more books.

This definitely applies to me right now. My TBR is all Netgalley books. Will I stop requesting? I‘ve been looking on there every day just browsing and feeling tempted to go on another requesting spree but I‘ve decided that I‘ll stop for now until I catch up with what I have to read from there and then I‘ll start requesting again or I‘ll take a break from Netgalley ARCs and read my backlist.

Netgalley just said on Instagram that today is Read An Ebook Day. I‘m not reading an ebook right now but here‘s my view of my Netgalley Shelf app from my iPhone. I usually use my iPad to read the Netgalley ebooks and I use my phone to listen to the audiobooks from Netgalley. The ebooks look better when I read them on a bigger screen especially if they have pictures or illustrations. I have so many to read now. I‘m looking forward to reading them.

I saw this on Facebook and wanted to post it here. Yeah. I definitely have smut and Christian books on my Kindle. I used to feel guilty about it because the Bible talks about having pure thoughts and to make sure that your entertainment (books, movies, music, tv shows, etc) glorifies God but that‘s not realistic. I tried only listening to Christian radio and only reading my Bible when I was a teenager but I got bored.

kelli7990 I don‘t care anymore if my entertainment is Christian or not. As far as my entertainment is concerned, I like what I like and I‘m not giving it up for God. (edited) 5mo

I found this on Instagram and decided to fill it out. I‘ve only read 1 book by Holly Black and 1 by V.E. Schwab. GRRM was the first Fantasy author I read and then after that, JRR Tolkien and other authors I‘ve checked off. I like Fantasy and I‘m interested in reading a lot of these authors. After the authors I‘ve read from this list, I want to try the others.

It‘s true. I‘m gonna have to live a long time to read my TBR. I wish I had time to read all my books but I have to sleep and I have other things to do but when I‘m able to, all I want to do is read. I read all afternoon earlier today but it was only 1 book. I can‘t wait until I get finished with it. It‘s taking me forever. I‘m ready to read the book I‘ll be reading with the #whimsicalreadsbookclub. I‘m in the mood for a fun book next.

I saw this reel on Instagram and thought it was so cute. The problem I‘m having is that I‘m reading a Netgalley ARC that‘s taking me a long time to read right now because it has long chapters. It‘s a book about fashion during WWII but it has no pictures and the writing feels dry like a textbook. Maybe I should DNF it because I don‘t like long chapters and there‘s no pictures. Maybe when the book gets published, there will be pictures.

The Fable app has this cool reading streak feature. This is really cool. When I first started using this feature, I forgot to update my reading progress but now every time I make progress in a book I‘m reading, I make sure to track it before my reading streak resets at midnight. If I don‘t then I can only track my reading for the next day. I‘m interested to see what this chart will look like at the end of the year.

I saw this post on the Fable app today and thought it was interesting. I feel like I don‘t have a hard time DNF‘ng a book but I haven‘t had any experience DNF‘ng a book in a series.

ShananigansReads Last year I gave up on an author who had several series I followed. Her books were my adult reintroduction to reading but the writing became super repetitive, describing the same details over and over. I found each book could probably be 100 pages shorter. It made me sad. 12mo

I just saw this post from a guy I follow on Instagram. He‘s going on a book buying ban this year. It‘s a good idea. I tried going on a ban last year and I did fine for a while and then I started buying again.

kelli7990 (Continued in comments) I have an idea. Something that I could try doing more often instead of book buying is borrowing books from the Libby app. It would give me the same feelings that a shopping spree gives me but I would save money and it would help me read my physical books if I‘m borrowing the audiobooks for them from Libby. 12mo
