Troubleshooter: Red-Eyed Killer
Troubleshooter: Red-Eyed Killer | Bard Constantine
5 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
Take a dystopian ride with Mick Trubble, private eye of the future in this prequel novella to New Haven Blues. In a city where favors have more value than money, Mick Trubble may as well be a loan officer. It takes no time to establish his skills at being able to solve problems that normal law enforcement can't. But his soft spot for a lovely young woman pulls him into a whirlpool of double-dealing and a game of nerve and wits with vengeful shylocks, dangerous gangsters, and ultimately face to face with New Haven's most notorious hitman: the Red-Eyed Killer.

Bard Constantine's stories of the Troubleshooter are always fan to read. Mick is a great character, witty and sympathetic.
I love the noir feeling of this stories and the sense that they are more magical than true SF.

This is a Peter Pan retelling with its own charm.

I'm so behind with the #FairytaleReadingChallenge 😭 Tonight l start the book for March, Peter Pan. This is a dieselpunk reinterpretation and l loved the first chapter.
Not the first time l'm reading a Toubkeshooter story and l always enjoy it. So noir, so witty.

(This particular story isn't in the database, so l tagged another title in the series).

Had to tag the second book in the series, which seems to be the only one in the Litsy database.

This is the first book in a dieselpunk series set in a 1950s like world with airship and SF technology. This first book is fun and amusing but the series becomes ever more dark and noir as it progresses.

Good one.

#UncriticalAugust

I'm not a big reader of #dystopian but l do like dieselpunk stories. This one leans heavily on the noir side - if with a lot of humour to it.
I loved the retrofuturistic 1950s-like setting and the hint at a larger characters arc.

Couldn't find the matching title so l'm tagging a different one from the same series

New Heaven Blues is a classic dieselpunk story set in a future resembling very much a 1940s noir America.
Mick Troubble is a hard boiled gumshoe who forgot everything about his past after an accident. Working on this case will give him glimpeses of who he was... and he really doesn't like that man
