It is 1968. Lynnie, a young white woman with a developmental disability, and Homan, an African American deaf man, are locked away in an institution, the School for the Incurable and Feebleminded, and have been left to languish, forgotten. Deeply in love, they escape, and find refuge in the farmhouse of Martha, a retired schoolteacher and widow. But the couple is not alone-Lynnie has just given birth to a baby

Had to tag the second book in the series, which seems to be the only one in the Litsy database.

This is the first book in a dieselpunk series set in a 1950s like world with airship and SF technology. This first book is fun and amusing but the series becomes ever more dark and noir as it progresses.

Good one.

I love these books. Volume One was good: unique, fun, and well-written. Volume Two was even better, and I still think about Zebulon often, almost a year after finishing the books. It amazes how few ratings these books have (and how low they are for Volume One).

For anyone who may want to try them: definitely do the audio versions! So good, and an experience with Volume Two that can‘t be missed. 😃
