The Girl at Midnight
The Girl at Midnight | Melissa Grey
[STAR] Sparks fly. . . . Will please fans of Cassandra Clare and Game of Thrones watchers with its remarkable world building; richly developed characters; and themes of family, power, loyalty, and romance. . . . [Book 2] cannot come soon enough! Booklist, StarredFor fans of Cassandra Clare's City of Bones and Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke & Bone, The Girl at Midnight is the story of a modern girl caught in an ancient war. Beneath the streets of New York City live the Avicen, an ancient race of people with feathers for hair and magic running through their veins. Age-old enchantments keep them hidden from humans. All but one. Echo is a runaway pickpocket who survives by selling stolen treasures on the black market, and the Avicen are the only family she's ever known. Echo is clever and daring, and at times she can be brash, but above all else she's fiercely loyal. So when a centuries-old war crests on the borders of her home, she decides it's time to act. Legend has it that there is a way to end the conflict once and for all: find the Firebird, a mythical entity believed to possess power the likes of which the world has never seen. It will be no easy task, though if life as a thief has taught Echo anything, it's how to hunt down what she wants . . . and how to take it. But some jobs aren't as straightforward as they seem. And this one might just set the world on fire. [STAR] [The] perfect blend of action and amour. Kirkus Reviews, Starred A feisty heroine, fun supporting characters, a mission to save the world, and some seriously spicy romance. SLJ Catnip for fans of Cassandra Clare. BookPage.com Fast-paced, action-packed, and full of laughs. Nerdist.com Enthralling and pure magic, Greys debut is delightful! Romantic Times A page-turnerI was hooked from start to finish. Liked the narrator a lot, but the story was not for me. The MC was very irritating but maybe I‘m just not a good reader for this book.
Echo, adopted and not really a part of the human world anymore, is sent on a quest to find the Firebird and must work fast to find the Firebird before anyone else.
1/5 read if you like teen books with main characters who are way too fast to judge and don‘t think things through

I would say this book is relatively good. I honestly picked it up after finishing the Harry Potter series. This book give you fantasy, romance, action, and even some bromance. If you loved reading love Simon Or Simon Snow I would recommend this.

One of my favorite aspects of The Girl at Midnight was the myth and legend that Grey created and the way in which it drove the story. She drew on inspirations from birds and dragons to create two ancient races, each with their own history, customs and traditions. I found the Avicen (birds) and Drakharin (dragon) races to be so fascinating, and was transfixed by the way Grey centered much of her story on the history between the two.

This book was pure magic and such an easy read. I literally finished it in one sitting? I know it seems very similar to Daughter of Smoke and Bone, but I couldn't help but be entranced by it's whimsical story and hilarious characters. Definitely a recommend read!

A very original and unique story that sucked me in from page one! This book was amazingly well told. Bits and pieces were a little too "meh.." for me, unfortunately, but the story, in its entirety, was fascinating and very different to anything I've read in a while!

If you like mystery, sarcasm, wit, comedy, romance, thrilling adventure, and magic then you should definitely check out "the Girl at Midnight" by Melissa Grey ?✌?

Loved this book so much. Echo is a literary thief after my own heart. I was captivated by her and the world she lives in. The ragtag group she has by the end of the book is hilariously well matched. The world building is spectacular and I cannot wait to read the next one.

I practically devoured his book! This was a reread for me and I loved the characters as much the 2nd time around as I did the 1st! One of my favorite characters had to be Jasper, an Avicen and fellow thief of Echo‘s. He is witty, a peacock, and loves to collect pretty things—one of which is Dorian, Caius‘s Captain of the Guard. I loved how Jasper would constantly try to get Dorian to blush. It was adorable. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I'm having trouble with this one. I need something between Pick and So-So. Well written, interesting secret world within our world. The idea of bird people and dragon people warring is intriguing. However, the story and the characters were predictable, which killed the wow factor for me.

Great YA fantasy novel with a funny & spirited female protagonist set in an interesting world of birds and dragons, where people have feathers for hair and scales. Well-paced plot as the heroine finds herself in the middle of a war along side a merry band of misfits. Also has a LGTBQ side pairing.

LisaMakeWords Perfect for lovers of The Mortal Instrument series or Six of Crows. 8y
