She eventually learned the names of over 1000 objects and learned various actions related to them. Here he discussing their time together and sneaks in lots of great info about learning. This is a great book and Chaser was very much alive when it was written, so you don‘t have to worry about living through her death at the end.

Loved the insight on training and ingenuity of getting the most out of your dog's brain in this book. A sweet story also of a dog who woke up a man later in life. It's especially fun to look at the you tube videos of Chaser in action-

The story does have a scientific background, but it's primarily a memory, author's personal experience of the communication with the dog. Chaser is extremely susceptibility to learning, but I'm convinced that we all see our own pets as the smartest animal in the world, and that we all can share our own magical experience. The story is full of joy, love and perfectly illustrates the relationship between man and dog, how great companions are dogs.
