In the Afterlight (a Darkest Minds Novel): A Darkest Minds Novel
In the Afterlight (a Darkest Minds Novel): A Darkest Minds Novel | Alexandra Bracken
Ruby can't look back. Fractured by an unbearable loss, she and the kids who survived the government's attack on Los Angeles travel north to regroup. Only Ruby can keep their highly dangerous prisoner in check. But with Clancy Gray, there's no guarantee you're fully in control, and everything comes with a price. When the Children's League disbands, Ruby rises up as a leader and forms an unlikely allegiance with Liam's brother, Cole, who has a volatile secret of his own. There are still thousands of other Psi kids suffering in government "rehabilitation camps" all over the country. Freeing them--revealing the governments unspeakable abuses in the process--is the mission Ruby has claimed since her own escape from Thurmond, the worst camp in the country. But not everyone is supportive of the plan Ruby and Cole craft to free the camps. As tensions rise, competing ideals threaten the mission to uncover the cause of IANN, the disease that killed most of America's children and left Ruby and others with powers the government will kill to keep contained. With the fate of a generation in their hands, there is no room for error. One wrong move could be the spark that sets the world on fire.

I feel the same exact way about the last two books as I did about this one. It's a good book and a good series, just not a great one. There are flaws that I just didn't like, just like the others. I feel like the book ended exactly in the same spot as when the war first started... What's the point of the whole series then?? Same ratings as the others because I did enjoy the book, but what the hell was that ending? 4/5

Again same as the first 2 parts, but I think that it started to be too much. Because she didn't only publish these 3 parts there are 3 or even more parts in between these three. It got overwhelming pretty fast. So if you want to read it I recommend the 3 main books and not the other parts that are in between.
Ps. There is a fourth part that I didn't read yet, so I can't say that I recommend it.

Day 2 of #EasterExtravaganza. A couple more hours added to my time and another book finished. Thats 2/4 done and only two days in. Think I may be finally reading more again. Been so distracted lately @Andrew65

Andrew65 We all have and hopefully the readthon is helping with some focus, and allowing us to get in a better reading habit. Great time 👏👏👏 5y
kezzlou85 @Andrew65 it seems to be for me so far which is great. Thank you. 5y

The end of the trilogy is here though I know there is another book linked to the series but this ties this part of the series up. The plot was good but a little slow at times then suddenly it was all drama and over quite quickly. I wanted a bigger showdown with some of the bad guys. That being said I have enjoyed the series and Liam still stands as my favourite. Ruby annoyed me at times but the others made up for her especially Chubs and Vida 4*

Gonna continue the series because I have to know what‘s happening 😱 book number 17 of my year 🤓📖

Caffeinated_Reader Omg this book was so draining!!! I wanted to throw it so many different times lol just out of frustration. Could they JUST catch a break!?! Jeez. Ruby is a freaking Goddess. Total badass. Can‘t wait to get the last book in the mail as I don‘t own it yet 😫 this series is phenomenal. 6y

This book was better than the last one, but still not nearly as good as the first one. There were parts I loved, parts I did not. Especially concerning the ending. That was a solid “so-so” for me. Also the way Ruby treated her friends tended to irk me a lot. I think this is a must read if you‘ve already made it this far into the series, but otherwise I‘d say to pass.

I really liked the first book in this series, but the second and third just dragged on and on. I thought the ending was good (which is why I'm giving it a so-so as opposed to a pan), but I'm kind of wishing I had bailed on the book and just read a synopsis online.

The cringe you just can‘t help when you get the audiobook for a series you‘re reading and you hear the names said out loud and they‘re different then how you had pronounced them in your head. 😖 But still, good series.

A warpup of the darkest minds series where all the characters come take part. Was a little short coming to end but otherwise nice closure.

I just can‘t with this series any more. And it makes me upset because I don‘t know why. I‘m just going to look up how it ends because there‘s no way I‘m wasting any more time on the book.

Hmm I‘m not sure how I feel about this book, I was deeply interested in the first two and for some reason I couldn‘t get as deeply into this book. I enjoyed reading and learning more about why everything happened and how it was stopped but other then that I was also slightly disappointed in the ending. I was hoping for more and didn‘t get everything I wanted. In the end parts are good other parts not so much #darkestminds #cantwaittooseemovie

Over all this series is a pick 3/5 on good reads. Bracken could have used even more editing. She says in her afterword that she handed in 600+ page manuscripts, so that feels mean to say, but there were whole sections that could have been skipped without losing the momentum of the story...or any of the meaning.

What‘s your reading goal for 2018?
I want to read 107 books this year! That‘s 3 more than I read last year so I think it‘s pretty reasonable! I‘ve already finished one book and I‘m making my way through two more at the moment. Fingers crossed I can get there!

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟It's one of the rare times when I'm actually satisfied with the way a trilogy ended. If you are a dystopian fan, then you should definitely check out this series. Especially since the movie adaptation of first book is coming out next year! I'm not really happy with the choice of cast, but still very excited!

Much like the rest of the series, this final book in the trilogy did not disappoint. Much like other YA novels, the characters continue to develop and realize their purpose as they fight against the government, which continues to hunt them. Surprisingly, though, the kids find out that not as many people are against them as they are made to believe.

I totally need one of those apps to make cute end-of-month graphics (suggestions, please!), but here are my five reads for November! I've got one more I'm finishing tonight, but just in case, I didn't include it. My #BestofNovember are probably In the Afterlight and U is for Undertow. Zodiac ranks closely behind, despite being cut off in the pic! #PhotoadayNov16 @RealLifeReading

Merethebookgal The app I use for my month-end stats is called Vanillapen and there's a free version but I paid the couple of bucks for the full version that has a lot more options. I'm assuming they have an android app, but not positive. 8y
jmtrivera @Merethebookgal They don't, unfortunately. Silly app developers! 8y
Merethebookgal @jmtrivera boo! Don't they know droid people want to make pretty graphics, too?? 8y

My full review is on my blog: garabrandtreview.wordpress.com. I loved this book. There was a lot of action and excitement- rescuing prisoners, taking out camps. There were also a lot of answers- not all of them good. Still, a satisfying conclusion to the series.

I give this series a B overall; not bad but nothing we haven't seen before and it didn't keep me super engaged. Conflicted at the news of Amandla Stenberg (Rue in Hunger Games) being cast for Darkest Minds movie, she's great but I honestly don't think the book fan base is enough to justify a movie in a genre that's looking pretty tapped out. Divergent was bigger and even that's tanking. Thoughts? Is her new book Passenger better?

There was a lot of times during this book I had to remind myself that Ruby and the other characters were kids who were taken when they were 7 yrs old because some of their decisions and actions really made me angry and frustrated. In the end I really enjoyed this book and series. I liked the ending but I want more Zu, Chubs and Vida! I want to know how the country is put back together. I want more Liam!
