⭐️⭐️⭐️ Metallica was formed the year I was born (1981) and I became a fan by default because of my older brother. He and I saw them live recently and, in a burst of nostalgia, I picked up this biography. Central to their story is bassist Cliff Burton‘s wholly devastating death in 1986; something they never really recovered from even with their massive success. Mick Wall gets bogged down in the minutiae, but it‘s a fascinating history.

Ericalambbrown Where‘d you see them? I took my husband to see them in Tulsa in January. 6y
britt_brooke @Ericalambbrown Thats awesome! We saw them in Nashville last month. 🤘🏻 6y
Ericalambbrown @britt_brooke OMG! I love Nashville! So we saw the same tour! 🤘🏻 6y
britt_brooke @Ericalambbrown Nashville is pretty fun! My family and I moved to the area about 4 years ago. I don‘t go down into the city nearly often enough. (edited) 6y

I‘m certainly glad they didn‘t go with “Thunderfuck.”

readordierachel I dunno, it has a certain charm 😆 6y
Prairiegirl_reading This brought back a clear memory for me. My friend and I went to Minneapolis to see Metallica and GNR. We had no idea there was a wicked storm happening and we could hear thunder but we both totally thought it was part of the show! Lol! 6y
britt_brooke @Prairiegirl_reading Too funny! I love those kinds of memories. My brother and I just saw them a couple of weeks ago which is why I picked this up. 6y

Prairiegirl_reading @britt_brooke lol! I think mine was in maybe 1992? Maybe 91? 🤣👵🏼 6y
Megabooks Lolololol! And years later it would be corrected in your texts to Thunderduck! 😉🤣🤣 6y
britt_brooke @Prairiegirl_reading I‘ve been listening to them that long! My brother was always blasting them from his room so I had no choice (but I always liked them). Just hadn‘t been to a show yet. 😁 It was pretty badass. He sprung for good seats. 6y
britt_brooke @Megabooks 😆😆😆 Exactly!! And Lars would be so pissed. (edited) 6y
sprainedbrain 😂😂 6y
Gina I guess they didn't use "Thunder****" cuz they didn't want to be put at the back of the record store...??? 6y
Prairiegirl_reading @Megabooks oh this is sooooo true!!! 🤣🤣😢 6y

🤘🏻Metallica!! ⚡️Saw them last night with my brother who has been a MASSIVE fan since the 80s. I can remember him constantly blaring them from his bedroom. I became a fan by default (no complaints). They put on a fantastic show!

❓- Has anyone read the tagged Metallica biography? I‘m thinking about reading it soon.

Gina That is FAB-U-LOUS 6y
BethM I've not read it but we saw them in October. 6y

AmyG LUCKY! 6y
daniwithtea I saw them back in the early 90s and they put on a fantastic show! 6y
britt_brooke @Gina @AmyG Thanks! It was a great show!! 6y
britt_brooke @BethM Did you like the stage setup? I thought it was pretty cool. 6y
britt_brooke @daniwithtea I bet that was freaking awesome! 6y
TrishB Hubby‘s read it! Music biographies are his first go to. 6y
britt_brooke @TrishB I love that! I enjoy them, too, but haven‘t read a ton yet. 6y
BethM Yeah it was nice. My only complaint was the lack of big screens so If you were higher it was harder to see. 6y
britt_brooke @BethM That‘s a good point. While those cube screens were cool, they were small and not very practical. 6y
readordierachel Metallica was my first concert when I was a teen 🖤 6y
britt_brooke @readordierachel That‘s so cool! Mine was Janet Jackson when I was 12. 😆 6y
Reviewsbylola I love that you went with your brother! 6y
britt_brooke @Reviewsbylola I‘m glad he invited me. He‘s going through a tough time right now (divorce 😔). We live about 2 hours apart so it was nice to spend kid-free time with him. 6y
Reviewsbylola Ugh that‘s tough. 6y

I learned a bit about the history of Metallica but the author could have cut this book by a third.

It was very wordy and didn't have as much information from the band as I would have liked, he does go into detail about the inspirations for each band member.

I look forward to reading more about the band, this book just falls flat.

I'd like one where the band are completely involved.

That being said, I love Metallica! 🤘

Cinfhen Love them too, even though they brought down Napster 😜 7y
AmyG 🤘🏻Also a fan. 7y

Love rocking out to one of the first rock albums that I bought in middle school. My tastes have become a lot heavier and eclectic over time, but still love this music 🎶

3/5⭐️ A good biography about a good band! It could have been a little shorter, but it's still a book worth reading if you like Metallica. Read in February 2017.
