The first book from my stacks has been axed! This was a satisfying, character rich chunckster from Trollope. The main plot revolves around a lawsuit which once won by the beautiful Lady Mason comes back to haunt her 20 years later. Of course, because Trollope, there are also romantic subplots - some satisfying and some heartbreaking. Overall, the novel is an indictment against the amorality of the legal system.

Ruthiella @Come-read-with-me Thanks! 😊 4y
CarolynM Well done! I'll have to put this one on my list for when I'm finished with Barsetshire - probably a few years away😬😆 4y

Ruthiella @CarolynM Thanks! It‘s a good stand alone-probably one of his best. 😀 The Barsetshire series is my favorite, however. I ❤️Septimus Harding. 4y
batsy @CarolynM I was thinking the same 😆 Great review @Ruthiella I'm on a quest to read all of the Trollopes... 😅🤞🏽 4y
Ruthiella @batsy I might want to be a Trollope completist too. But he sure wrote a lot!😆 But it‘s a worthy and fun goal! 4y

Finished my 18th (I think) book by Trollope. This is a good one surrounding a possibly forged will and the ethics of defending the guilty in a court of law. Next up, Toni Morrison!

Leftcoastzen I need to get back to Trollope , I think I have read 4 of his books.🤔 4y
JenniferP @Leftcoastzen I like his Barchester Towers series best, though that might be because I read it first! 4y
Leftcoastzen There is a casual group here on Litsy #Trollopeing we are just about to start the 2nd book of the Barchester series March 15th . I really loved this one but read it a long time ago 4y
JenniferP @Leftcoastzen I saw that that group read was happening! Have fun - they are so great. I think He Knew He Was Right is my favorite stand alone. 4y
Ruthiella I‘m a huge Trollope fan and have Orley Farm on the TBR for this year! 😀 Looking forward to it. 4y

This is an impression of the pumpkin carving my husband made of my beloved Labrador Susie who died the day before Halloween. It sits a top my bookshelf as she was by my side when I read. Orley Farm was the last book I read to her. And it was a good one. #shelfiesunday @Litsy

RaimeyGallant I'm so sorry for your loss, but thank you for sharing it. 7y

I really loved Orley Farm. It's a great story, really well plotted, and the characters are very well-drawn. I particularly like the way Trollope deals with moral ambiguity. Highly recommended (but only if Victorian lit is your thing).
