Black Privilege
Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It | Charlamagne Tha God
Charlamagne Tha Godthe self-proclaimed Prince of Pissing People Off, co-host of Power 105.1s The Breakfast Club, and hip-hops Howard Sternshares his unlikely success story as well as how embracing ones truths is a fundamental key to success and happiness. In his new book, Charlamagne Tha God presents his comic, often controversial, and always brutally honest insights on how living an authentic life is the quickest path to success. Beginning with his journey from the small town of Moncks Corner, South Carolina to his headline grabbing interviews with celebrities like Justin Bieber, Jay-Z, Nicki Minaj, Kanye West, and Hillary Clinton, he shares how he turned his troubled early life around by owning his (many) mistakes and refusing to give up on his dreams, even after his controversial opinions got him fired from several on-air jobs. Combining his own story with bold advice and his signature commitment to honesty at all costs, Charlamagne hopes this book will give others the confidence to live their own truths.

Just finished listening to this. It was certainly unique in many ways as Charlamagne is truly a unique individual. I enjoyed learning about his personal life and hearing his thoughts on a wide variety of topics. I found some of his sexual comments a bit cringey for me, but he is certainly himself.

1. Be lazy!
2. Random selection because everything I‘ve read this month has been pretty good.
3. Black eye peas, chitterlings, cantaloupe. And many others #PickyEater
4. As a kid I loved my ballet, tap, jazz and baton. Traded it all (though no choice is my own) for cheerleading in middle school through 11th grade.
5. 🍻Cheers to the weekend!

Can‘t wait to start this one! Had to limit myself to 1 book with this paycheck (because I‘d spend the whole thing on books if I didn‘t) & this is the one I chose! #blackprivilege #charlamagnethagod

Part memoir, part motivational self-help. I loved the unflinching honesty, even when I didn‘t agree with CTG‘s actions or assertions.

I can not recommend this book enough! The language came be rough but Charlamagne sticks to who he truly is in the book. He doesn‘t make apologies for how he feels or what he has done in the past. He also doesn‘t hide the mistakes he made in the past. He owns each and every detail.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Black Privilege is the perfect combination of humor and knowledge. It combines all the elements required for a great memoir. The author digs up his own dirt and uncovers his own mistakes and disappointments in a way that lets us know it's ok to be beautifully flawed creatures.

I enjoyed the book. It‘s an autobiography self help book. I honestly think most of the principles and gems he mention are valuable for those who are unaware/misguided. But they are also refreshing for those who need encouragement to stay on the right track. The flow/content of the book doesn‘t really connect with the title in my opinion, but he does try to tie things together in the end. I would give it a 4 out of 5.

“There are three primary “P‘s” to choose from in life: (1) Passion, which leads to prosperity. (2) Poison, which leads to pain. (3) Procrastination, which doesn‘t lead anywhere at all, because you sit around waiting for things to just magically happen. Please don‘t pick “P‘s” numbers 2 and 3. Instead of hoping you‘ll be successful, follow your passion and make conscious decisions that will help you realize your destiny.”

Interesting enough, but not what I expected. Not for me, but worth a try if you‘re a fan and want to learn more about him.

CRR I‘m reading this and “So You Want to Talk About Race” at the same time and I‘m a bit puzzled by how the two books compare to each other. 5y
SW-T @Clint Other than both being non fiction, they don‘t have much in common. Black Privilege is kind of a misleading title for a memoir about how Charlamagne Tha God became a radio personality. He‘s privileged so to speak. So You Want To Talk About Race is about the complex reality of today‘s racial divide, how to recognize the issues, and overcome them. I‘d recommend Oluo. 5y
CRR @SW-T I finished “So you want to talk about race” last night. I liked it and it challenged me. I‘m listening to “Black Privilege” and haven‘t gotten back to it much yet. Thanks for your help and insight. 5y

This book is inspiring for anyone. Charlamagne talks about the hard work he put in to get where he is. His life is blessed bc he worked for it.

This book has inspired me to believe in myself and also not take anyone or any experience for granted.

He is honest and hilarious and I enjoyed this book very much!

Tiffany: "The author is a radio personality and the host of The Breakfast Club. He's very raw and honest. In his book, he discusses the privilege everyone has – like your hair, or your height. You have to create an opportunity for yourself. You can't just blame others for your trials and tribulations. If you want to be on the radio, you get a podcast. If you want to be on TV, you get on YouTube. Everyone has their thing." #newyork
