Needed a break today to read something fun & non demanding!

When I picked up this book at a charity bookstore, my #firstimpressions were that the cover was intriguing and that I may like the mystery. Little did I know that Georgette Heyer would become my #favoritefemaleauthor ! I've enjoyed or loved every one of her books I've read (with one exception), and I'm so glad there are still many I have yet to read. ❤️

I have enjoyed all her other books I have read much more. It is a crime mystery with #desire and #greed themes at its core. So what put me off? I was astonished by the love angle thrown in at the end. Where did that come from? The plot didn't hang together well and I disliked the protagonist who was so arrogant and smug.
Sadly, there is a simile that uses a racial slur. I couldn't get past this.

I didn't like this as much as Footsteps in the Dark. The romance was particularly unconvincing. #goldenagemystery
