I gave this brilliant book a ‘Pick‘ a couple of years ago; anticipating TV debut, makers of The Crown and Mrs. Wilson to create; should be good! https://deadline.com/2020/02/bbc-adapting-you-dont-know-me-tom-edge-snowed-in-12...

It dips a bit in the middle, but other than that a solid pick. A lot more than just a crime novel, looking at society, gangs and pressures of living in certain areas. The author does a good explanation of the ideas behind the book, makes you think.
😁😁 only to non book people!
A different take on a crime novel / courtroom drama, but one that I really enjoyed. A teenage #badboy takes to the stand to present his own closing argument in a murder trial.

I wasn‘t sure whether I would enjoy this book as it‘s told from the POV and in the voice of a young man from London who is accused of shooting someone. He gives his own closing statement in court and we take the part of the jury. Whilst it dipped a bit in the middle (too many ‘innits‘!) and the ending frustrated me, I would highly recommend this if you‘re looking for something a little bit out of the ordinary. Very clever!
Last event of The Literature Festival today - it‘s been a fab weekend! Imran Mahmood talked about his work as a defence lawyer and how that inspired his book. (Funny story about a defendant who denied it was him on CCTV evidence, but was wearing the exact same outfit in court that he was wearing when he committed the crime on CCTV!)
Looking forward to reading the book....
This is the story of a young man charged with a gang-related murder, who chooses to give his own closing statement disclosing what 'really happened‘.
Mahmood has done brilliant things. This book certainly has pacing imperfections, but makes me very much look forward to whatever else Mahmood might produce.

This month‘s picks, fresh from the book store! #amreading #bookbloggers #newbooks
Tana French blurb, which was enough for me to buy it. Plus the cover. Incredibly good and affecting. Accused fires barrister and makes his own closing statement, the entirety of the book. Would you believe him?

"An unnamed defendant stands accused of murder. Just before the Closing Speeches, the young man sacks his lawyer, and decides to give his own defence speech....his barrister told him to leave some things out...There are 8 pieces of evidence against him. As he talks us through them 1 by 1....We, the reader-member of the jury- must keep an open mind till we hear the end of his story....." ?⁉
