Loved this so much. I think it probably ranks up there as one of my favorite horror novels. It‘s empathetic, nuanced, and still so chilling. It looked like a long book but I zoomed through it.

I may be in love with Rachel, who at one point recognizes that her lover is behaving like the John Wayne character and thinks “No, I‘m the John Wayne in this scenario.”

the tribe is one of the most unique horror books I've read, being a reflection on trauma, minority identity and misplaced revenge. that being said, it's also probably the most slowburn horror book I've ever read and it's definitely a book that's not going to jive with everyone. this is an excellent example of a horror book that has a fascinating message at the end and I agree with Hendrix's appraisal.

I‘ve read several of the other PFH selections and have been pleased throughout but this one just bored me.

Gotta agree with Grady Hendrix in the introduction here. This isn't just one of my favorite horror novels I have ever read, it may well be one of my favorite novels period. What a book, what a book.

I am moving So Slowly through the last 100 pages of this book, but it's because something every few pages brings tears to my eyes.

Update: Sad

khooliha This is a much sadder and much more tender book that I was anticipating. 5y

I may be only 40 pages in, but yeah, I was needlessly worried about not liking this book. #screamathon

Tomorrow I'll start The Tribe, a book I have heard unfailingly good things about. I am (baselessly) concerned I won't like it. #screamathon

My (admittedly modest) #Screamathon tbr! The top three are books I am partway through and hoping to finish soon. Gotta say, of the untouched I am most excited for the Ken Greenhall rarity that had me gasping out loud at the used bookstore when I found it.
