Perfect NYE reading.
I read the second two of these as a child, but never the first one, so @TrishB found me a copy a couple of years back (thank you Trish!). A big, happy, resourceful 1930s working-class family (7 children, Mum‘s a washerwoman, Dad‘s a dustman) who get up to adventures, worry about money (and the police/sanitary inspector being called) and are prone to big Ideas. Still a delight. And I need to track down Garnett‘s biography now.
