not as good as Dune but still a worthy follow up to one of great science fiction epics
One of the best sequels ever I dare to say. Great follow-up to the first book. The ending manages to wrap everything up so neatly and it has some of the best characters I will ever remember from a book.

Just started Dune: Messiah this morning, interesting so far!
I also prefer my books to be well worn and used, shows they were read! I know that is sacrilege to many readers though 🤣
This book is a bit shorter so hopefully I can finish it within the next few days 😊

Sequel to Dune, it is good. Easier to understand in my opinion, and highlights how people always want a revolution.
This was my first audiobook ever. As expected, I had a tough time staying focused, though the Wikipedia plot summary did help a little. As for the book itself: meh. I remember being fond of the first book, and I adore the most recent movie adaptation, but this sequel just didn‘t feel as immersive as I would have liked it to be. Maybe the medium just wasn‘t right…
Overall I enjoyed this one more than the book 1 - but I loved so much the world in the first installment and now I missed vivid descriptions of surroundings.
I liked Paul so much more now than at the end of the book 1. This book showed what Paul felt and what he was afraid of.
I liked how there were some twists and I wanted so badly to see how things will end.
Writing made this again a bit arduous to read.

I‘m really glad I read the preface written by Herbert‘s son first because it kind of gave showed you what was to come with Paul. I did like this one, but not as much as Dune.
⭐⭐⭐
I'm a little disappointed.. this sequel had all the elements to be an excellent book (just like Dune) but the plot was all over the places and too mystical for my tastes.
I wanted to like it more than I did, but oh well. It was fine, but I don‘t think anything can compare to the mystery and grandeur of the first book and the social ecology that grounds it. Maybe I‘ll read the 3rd book in time but I‘m not in any rush…
Yeah this one was just ok. As a sequel to a super f## long book I feel like this one wasn‘t as interesting as the original. I‘d give it a pass tho, because at least it was shorter.
“I succumbed to the lure of the oracle, he thought.
And he sensed that succumbing to this lure might be to fix himself upon a single-track life. Could it be, he wondered, that the oracle didn't tell the future? Could it be that the oracle made the future?” #divination #QuotsyOct21
I didn‘t enjoy this quite as much as the OG Dune, but still a fun sci-fi read… lots of political intrigue!
#bookspin for august complete!
An intense tale, it is truly a page-turner. At 275 pages, it's not long, but heavy topics centering on gulit, destiny, love, and what it means to be a person persist throughout the novel. A great sequel to Dune.
Blah blah blah, weird religious and political maneuvering and they still want me to believe this is sci-fi? If this doesn‘t get a lot more interesting soon I‘m gonna have to dip out.

Finally finished the second Dune book, I am definitely excited to continue the series. I feel like I have to expand my mind to understand and try to predict anything but it‘s super interesting!!!
Set 12 years after Dune, Dune Messiah chronicles the continued exploits of those never-boring Atreides kids on Arrakis. Paul is Emperor and Alia is Reverend Mother.
While not as epic in scope as (and much shorter than) Dune, this novel kept me turning pages as the Atreides are engrossing characters and always up to something, and there were some interesting folks introduced who factored heavy in the goings-on. Looking forward to continuing on.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I can see where readers began to dislike Paul but I understood that it was the way it had to be. This book is very political and there‘s a bit of red tape to follow but I look forward to the next one. #dune #scifi #litsy #recommend
I previously read #Dune which was the first in the series and loved it. I actually read the paperback so the #audiobook of the second book should be interesting. I‘m definitely excited and I‘ll let y‘all know how it goes 😁😁😁 #series #scifi #litsy
I've yet to complete either of my #bookspin picks for June, and my husband and I just started an 1100 page opus for our book club, but #BookSpinBingo sounds like WAY TOO MUCH FUN to pass up. You've done it again, Sarah! @TheAromaofBooks #LetsDoThis 😎
A worthy follow-up to the first book. Moves quickly and introduces interesting new technology and themes. Do souls persist after death? Is there such a thing as a "good" supreme ruler? Looking forward to the final book in the trilogy.

“When you stumble, you may regain your balance by jumping beyond the thing that tripped you.”
A moment's prevarication before committing to moving from Dune to Dune Messiah, but, a) this Pennington cover is boss, and; b) it has some of my favourite characters in it, not least Scytale, the Bene Tleilax Face Dancer, a shape-shifting assassin who, as a matter of honour, always gives their intended victim a means of escaping the fate prepared for them (though, yeah, it's about a 0.001% chance!).
Dune is a favorite, I marvel at how well-crafted it is each reread. Like the first book, there‘s a mix of philosophy, political and religious commentary, strong character-development (albeit male-centric) that I find engaging. Messiah deepens our knowledge of political forces in interesting ways. Otherworldliness is the landscape and character and the outliers, while seen as freaks within the world, are the most compelling for the reader.
Started my #bookspin yesterday before work. I realized I didn‘t read all of Wednesday because I thought I should be reading this book but didn‘t want to take it to work. Had a little extra time before work to start it Thursday and I‘m enjoying it so far.
Also, keeping up with the meditating for #BFC only missing three days so far.
#bookspin for April is Dune Messiah (it‘s slightly unbelievable I haven‘t read this, given how much love I have for Dune)
#doublespin is Fresh Complaint. (An impulse buy... Middlesex is a favorite book of mine, I thought, “ooo short stories!!!”)
& what the heck, why not
#triplespin is The Grip of Film (I have long loved Ayoade and only this year discovered he‘s an author!)
A good mix, I am excited!
Thank you for organizing this @TheAromaofBooks 👏
Finished this #Audiobook today!
A good continuation to the story, as we follow Paul and his people through the years!
To be honest, I enjoyed the second book even more than I did the first one. It has so much depth, takes such close looks to the characters thoughts and feelings, without slowing down the story. A great book from tge beginning to the end ❤️
Not usual for me to have two #Audiobooks going at once, but these are the current listens!
You will find a different side of Paul Atredies in this book. A lot happens that I believe sets us up for Children of Dune. I am not sure whose side I am on, if I find a character I trust. This is turning out to be a great series.
And this is the rest! 😁 I already have “Dune” itself, and now *yells with an echoey boom into the stormy night with raised arms* my collection is almost complete 😆! I would have bought the rest of the installments, but the store didn‘t have them in stock. I think I‘m missing the last one of the main series and the last one from the Butlerian series. I just adore these covers, and they‘re in my favorite format-size. 🥰
Have you read any?!
“There are problems in this universe for which there are no answers.”
Felt like I was on Arrakis sitting in the sunshine on my back porch today...
I love the mystical universe Herbert imagined and the story he tells within it. Kinda wish it had a glossary too 😅 but it sure leaves you with a lot to think about...
“Wild Fremen said it well: "Four things cannot be hidden -- love, #smoke, a pillar of fire and a man striding across the open bled.” #QuotsyNov18
“If you need something to worship, then worship life - all life, every last crawling bit of it! We're all in this beauty together!” #Crawl #QuotsyAug18
Finally took time to finish part two of the saga and (again) LOVED IT! This time fronting as a political thriller F Herbert skips from the Muad‘dibs ascent to power in book one directly to the breaking point of the Atreides Empire. A deep, diverese and poetic meditation on religion, motherhood, love and death.
My eyes are falling shut but i really want to get some more pages of this political thriller down so i can finish it tomorrow morning at breakfast! #bookinbed
