We have had 16 kids ( it‘s 7:15 pm) kind of feels like a lost cause

WildAlaskaBibliophile What a beautiful house! 2mo
LiteraryinPA It‘s the worst to be all ready for trick or treaters and then barely any come! 2mo

ShelleyBooksie Love the display!! 2mo
mcctrish @AmyG @LiteraryinPA there is a neighbourhood walk for houses registered to win a prize for decorations that is one street over where my in laws live, they had 160+ kids and turned off their lights at 7:15 and we are a ghost town 🤣🤣 (edited) 2mo
julieclair Love your decor! 2mo
dabbe Love your house and decor! 🖤🎃🖤 2mo

mcctrish @dabbe thank you so much 🖤🧡 2mo
KadaGul @mcctrish You are just like Mom. In early 2000s, My sister and I were older, so we would start Trick-o-Treat later; my brother was younger, so he would start early. Then he would be with Mom handing out candy. My mom would be so disappointed if many Costco bags of chocolate and candy weren't gone by Sundown. She would say, we went through all the candy when you girls were growing, you age group weren't picky. (edited) 2mo
mcctrish @KadaGul it‘s not that they aren‘t coming early, it‘s that they aren‘t coming at all 2mo
KadaGul @mcctrish In the 2010s, closer to our subdivision, we started to have competition, and they went all out. So compared to them, our house wasn't looking 👀 as scary 👻. However, we covered the front windows 🪟, door 🚪 , garage door 🚪, front porch, and yard in spooky 👻 decorations, but we couldn't compete with the Mini Haunted houses in and around our subdivision. 2mo
KadaGul @mcctrish I know the trends have gone down. Now, trick-or-treats are starting early in the park district and small-town downtowns. I took my nephews 2 weeks ago for Algonquin‘s Trick-o-Treat; they closed off part of the main street and had many businesses handing out candy. We did that because we had a party for my youngest nephew this past weekend. 2mo
AmyG In NJ my street was nuts! One house made caramel apples, one had a haunted house in their garage, next door did cotton candy. Kids would bypass my house to go to those because we just gave out candy. 🤣 @Kadagul @mcctrish (edited) 2mo
mcctrish @AmyG our neighbours across the street had 30 more kids than us, they can‘t figure it out cuz we have music and skeletons and are well lit, her side is just pumpkins in the dark 2mo
AmyG @mcctrish It makes no sense. Kids!!! 2mo
mcctrish @KadaGul I know the daylight savings time push out until this weekend means it‘s light at 6 so kids wait until later to go out ( it should be dark for trick or treating, I get that ) it‘s just crazy that a street over it‘s hundreds of people and across the street from us it‘s more too ( I‘m giving out full size chocolate bars too ) 2mo
DogMomIrene We had 34 kids, which seems comparable to last year, which was our first Halloween in our new home. We‘re on a cul-de-sac, but we were handing out candy that one of the moms said kids love, so maybe next year we get more kids. 2mo
mcctrish @DogMomIrene we did get some more kids later ( after they went to the houses on the tour? ) and our numbers were up from last year so maybe my full size chocolate bars are catching on 2mo
DogMomIrene @mcctrish Yep! That same mom mentioned that another house was handing out granola bars. My husband told the kids to grab 3-4 treats from each of our two bins. Mom was like, “You‘re singing their song”😂😂😂 So I bet full size candy bar news got spread in your neighborhood! 2mo

I can‘t seem to ‘‘like‘ or comment on anyone‘s posts, or even when I select a book add my own pic. I have logged all the way out on my iPad and back in again, but that hasn‘t helped. Hope someone can assist. #litsy

Librarybelle There are others who had the same issue. The best thing to do is email litsy@librarything.com to report the issue, and they can hopefully help get the app up and running again! It hasn‘t happened to me yet, but it seems when an iOS update runs, the app is not cooperating with it. 2mo

Interesting font choice.

(I just randomly opened the book and took a picture. Didn‘t read it until just now. Is the universe outing me? I don‘t think I‘m exactly the Queen of swords but….)

TalesandTexts What an interesting combo. Does this page hold the queen of cups as well? The one above the swords? 6mo
Sace @TalesandTexts the page of swords precedes it. Which… confuses me? I thought the court cards were page, knight, Queen, king. 6mo
TalesandTexts Yes, you‘re right. That‘s the structure. But given the description, I thought it was either a cups or a wands description. 6mo

Sace @TalesandTexts I wish I knew the cards well enough that I could even guess at a random description 😂 6mo
TalesandTexts 😂 i‘m sure you will soon enough 6mo
Andrea4 That is an interesting font choice. Perhaps the author decided to pair the “female“ courts together and then the “males“ to kind of compare and contrast? 6mo
Sace @Andrea4 apparently the author hand wrote her books? Very impressive if that‘s true. I‘m just glad to have this book. It‘s hard to find inexpensive copies of her books (which must be out of print). I‘ll look at the at the book again and pay more attention to how she organized. 6mo

I‘ve always been fascinated by tarot. It probably started when I was 12 and saw a deck in a bookstore and bought it…and didn‘t do more than look at the cards (I wish I still had the lovely box I kept them in). I decided to get serious about learning tarot in 2020.

Fast forward 4 years and … I still haven‘t learned tarot. But I have a couple decks and a bunch of books! I‘ve been thinking about my cards a lot recently. I might be dipping back in.

ElizaMarie YES go for it! 6mo
Sace @ElizaMarie I don‘t think my end goal will ever be to read for others though. 6mo

1 - I consulted the star signs so many times the spine split completely in two
2 - Isak Dinesen was a favorite author from early adulthood. I particularly loved Seven Gothic Tales and Anecdotes of Destiny
3 - Christian Kracht‘s Imperium: a Fiction of the South Seas

Eggs Interesting-sounding books👏🏻👏🏻 7mo
iread2much 1) I‘ve actually read a few books so many times that they fell apart, it‘s why I switched to buying hard copies from my favorite authors. The first book I ever bought, Arrows for the Queen is very much taped, glued, and held together by love and stubbornness. 7mo
See All 8 Comments
iread2much 2) Mercedes Lackey has been a favorite author of mine since I first bought Arrows for the Queen when I was about 13. I still enjoy her books. 7mo
iread2much 3) I actually don‘t enjoy reading books the first time, I find it stressful if it‘s a really good book to not know what‘s going to happen. I like to read loved books over and over again and for really good ones, I get something new each time I read it. But if I had to choose, We by Yevgeny Zamyatin. It would be great to read it fresh with more adult experiences in my life 7mo
