Murder in Dilworth
Murder in Dilworth | Sheila Huntington
1 post
A rollicking tale of MURDER and MAYHEM! Bunny and Scarsey, two eighty-year-old would-be detectives in Charlotte's beautiful and historic Dilworth, decide to solve a murder involving the Mob and an eighty-year-old pole-dancing stripper. Imagine the complications these "newbies" provoke in this really funny but heartwarming thriller. You'll fall in love with the characters as you turn the pages. The police and Lt. Melanie Taylor are none too happy with their amateur assistants. They warn Bunny and Scarsey to leave it to the police or else! But, Bunny being Bunny, she can't let it go. She learns to use a computer, and with the help of a retiree from the FBI and Gracie, her psychic dog, she and Scarsey set out to solve the murder. Then there is the matter of the stripper, Sovella St. Clair, who makes a big play for Scarsey. Throw in a mobster who thinks Bunny is a hot item until she ices him down, a kidnapping, a shootout, a rescued victim of human trafficking, plus two lovable children, and you have several evenings of good reading with lots of twists and turns. It's all a little improbable, but anyone who has experienced the tenacity and wisdom of eighty-year-olds will appreciate the story. So sit back, put your feet up, and enjoy it!

#setinyourcountry is easy. #setinyourcity is surprisingly difficult (I know because I had trouble finding anything that looked remotely appealing to me for the read harder challenge of within 100 miles of where you live). Mom bought this book by a local author, but said it was so awful she actually DNF. 😳I'm hoping to find an alternative for the challenge. We don't always agree, but she rarely DNFs, and I trust her judgement. #readjanuary

carrieonwayward Are you looking for something based near Charlotte? 8y
DGRachel @carrieonwayward Yes! The only other books I could find were either nonfiction or book #3 or later of a series by Kathy Reichs. Since this is for a challenge and my TBR is already out of control, I didn't want to have to read two extra books just to get to #3 and I hate reading series out of order. 😳 8y
carrieonwayward @DGRachel - see if you can find Dry Grass of August by Anna Jean Mayhew. I read it several years ago, it takes place in Charlotte in the 1950s. A little bit in the same vein as The Help, although not as good. It wasn't a GREAT book, but it was alright. 8y

bookwrm526 For set within 100 miles of you, you might try this one, set in Columbia SC....I think that's about 85 miles from Charlotte? 8y
