Lucky Peach
Lucky Peach | Chris Ying, Peter Meehan, David Chang
7 posts | 2 to read
Lucky Peach is a journal of food writing, published on a quarterly basis by McSweeneys. It is a creation of David Chang, the James Beard Awardwinning chef behind the Momofuku restaurants in New York, Momofuku cookbook cowriter Peter Meehan, and Zero Point Zero Productionproducers of the Travel Channels Emmy Awardwinning Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations. The result of this collaboration is a mlange of travelogue, essays, art, photography, and rants in a full-color, meticulously designed format. Recipes will defy the tired ingredients-and-numbered-steps formula. Theyll be laid out sensibly, inspired by the thought process that went into developing them. The aim of Lucky Peach is to give a platform to a brand of food writing that began with unorthodox authors like Bourdain, resulting in a publication that appeals to diehard foodies as well as fans of good writing and art in general. What's inside? -David Simon, creator of The Wire and Treme, remembers his father via pickles and cream. -Jonathan Gold and Robert Sietsema talk Teletubbies in Kansas City. -There's a Choose Your Own Adventurestyle hunt for tacos through Texas and California. -Plus stuff from Harold McGee, Anthony Bourdain, Elvis Mitchell, and more!

Sometimes you've gotta eat a white Kit Kat Chunky while you read about obsessive citrus collectors.

So far, this plant-focused issue is exactly what I need for my current round of research. Yay!

I've been exhausted and unable to concentrate all day, but I'm committed to a small outdoor writing & research session.

It'll probably involve more research than writing because I can't do words good right now.

Partial #bookhaul from a day spent book shopping with my little sister. The Handmaid's Tale has always been one of my favourite books, but I lent my copy out and it was never returned, so I thought I'd treat myself. The magazine is the last issue of Chelsea's favourite, and a coming home gift for her. ❤️☺️

Discovered "Lucky Peach" food writing journal during Thursday night's insomnia session. I was like this is hip??? But then realized it shut down in April. Womp. So I bought 4 back issues online before they all go out of stock: the gender issue, the apocalypse issue, the plant kingdom issue, and the pho issue. Foooood. Writinggggg. Hopefully food historyyyy. Yay.

LauraBrook Omg, never heard of it before, but now I must find a copy online and check it out! 7y

From an article by Mario Batali in Lucky Peach Issue 3. He's talking about cooking, but this speaks to me about crafting in general.
