I read one of her poems and the hunt was on! As the silly little book hoarder I am , found them and haven‘t read them yet .She won the Nobel prize.

“He who wishes to drown himself must have an ax at hand to cut the ice. Oh, madame, dearest madame.” Not unlike a response one might give to someone who only knows that Maine is cold? 🤔
“Nothing can ever happen twice.
In consequence, the sorry fact is
that we arrive here improvised
and leave without the chance to practice.”

I think this is why my prof doesn‘t mind that work keeps me glued to my desk until long past time I should be getting ready to leave for class... #notsohumblebrag #studentlife #poetrychallenge2018

“Daughters of the Baroque. Dough
Thickens in troughs, baths steam, wines blush,
Cloudy piglets careen across the sky,
Triumphant trumpets neigh the carnal alarm.
O pumpkin plump! O pumped-up corpulence
Inflated double by disrobing
And tripled by your tumultuous poses
O fatty dishes of love!”
(p21, “Rubens‘ Women”)
A picture may be worth a thousand words, but sometimes the right words complete the picture.

They're both convinced
that a sudden passion joined them.
Such certainty is beautiful,
but uncertainty is more beautiful still.
Since they'd never met before, they're sure
that there'd been nothing between them.
But what's the word from the streets, staircases, hallways--
perhaps they've passed by each other a million times?
Poems are hard for me, so much pondering and analyzing, it's slow going. The words of Szymborska are powerful, even decades after they were written. Nature, war, oppression, humans, big ideas are all covered in thought provoking detail. #libraryreads #readharder #readwomen

Jan. 21: An Opinion on the Question of Pornography. Szymborska is a poet that everyone should be reading. I think the opening line (and this whole poem) is one that deserves attention. #LitsyPoetry365
Why do we treat the fleeting day
with so much needless fear and sorrow?
It's in its nature not to stay:
Today is always gone tomorrow.
