Strong second book of the series. Easier to follow than book 1. Complex, intriguing, and surprising.

125/150 To be honest, I was expecting a letdown after the first amazing book, but I was so so wrong. This is as good as Ancillary Justice, maybe better in some ways. Breq continues to grow as a multifaceted character, and while I wanted more Seivarden in the story, the introduction of Tisarwat made up for it. Highest quality science-fiction, highly recommended to everyone. 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I just love this universe and the complexity of emotion Leckie fills her universe with. In terms of how this book fits into the series, Sword has stiff competition with the previous Justice, and I hope Mercy will round this all out to satisfaction!

This was a joy, as ever. I missed Seivarden, though -- she only plays a small part. It's funny how attached to her I am after the reader dislikes her so much at first.

Also, this was the #DoubleSpin number and helps me toward one of the lines I want to get for #BookSpinBingo.

AI, space stations, interplanetary gates, a world weary soldier disgusted by the privileged society that has colonised most of the known universes - what‘s not to love? This is the sequel to Ancillary Justice and its great. Great world building, great characters, you can feel the chess pieces moving into place for the big finale but it‘s still highly enjoyable. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The aliens and translators are some of my all time favorite characters! I need more of them. Exciting to read and excellent endings.

Such great world-building! An excellent second installation in this series.
To the performance, while I love the narrator as an actress, her character voices tend toward the shrill and are very hard for me to tolerate, especially in the car or directly in my ears.

Translator Glick brings some delightful whimsy a la Phantom Tollbooth to this fascinating series that is largely told from the POV of, and about, somewhat mechanical characters.

I was updating my reading on LibraryThing and realized I hadn‘t continued this series (got wrapped up in school reading). Amending!

Wow. If you want to read a book where AI does not possess freewill, do not read this book. If you want to read about an 2000 year old AI who agrees to be sent on a mission by a fragmented ruler to champion equality in order to protect society from the horror that unrestrained privilege produces, read this amazing book. I also want to buy a new tea set, listen to more music and read poetry.

Ends with a perfect hook into the final installment without feeling like a cliffhanger (looking at you, Shades of Magic) and contains some splendidly transcendent sequences alongside traditional space-adventure antics. Mercy certainly has a lot to live up to.

I enjoyed being immersed in this richly detailed world. It was a bit easier to get into than the first book, Ancillary Justice, probably because I had read the first book 😉 Looking forward to the third book!

The "Imperial Radch" series is one of those reads that can feel like a slog of you're not in the head-space to just give yourself over to it. If you can manage that, then you'll get into these lovely grooves where you'll snap to and realize the story had shifted genres a half dozen times without you noticing.

This is getting ridiculous. Sure, June was pretty busy, but my inability to finish any of these titles in the past month is indefensible. If I don't get my act together this month, my annual reading goal is as good as gone.

This book was fantastic! The 2nd book in the Ancillary series picks up right where Ancillary Justice ended. After thwarting the attack on Omaugh Station by the rebel faction, Breq is given command of a Mercy ship by the same person who took everything away from her years ago. Wary & distrustful,she takes the assignment to Athoek Station but is thrown into the middle of a brewing civil war. If you like sci-fi, definitely try this series.🚀

Ok. Tonight‘s insomniac plan of attack is: finish this incredible sci-fi novel, the 2nd in the Ancillary series, then it‘s a tossup whether to move straight on to the 3rd & final book in the series or choose a book from the towers of #MountTBR stacked on my library floor. #DecisionsDecisions🤔

Still wanting SciFi so I‘m picking up the sequel to Ancillary Justice,a book I read & loved last year. I‘ve had both sequels sitting on my #MountTBR since then but I‘ve got to be in the mood for SciFi to read it. In this book,Breq, who was the AI of a Justice starship with 1,000s of “Ancillary” bodies, (humans whose mind had been wiped & replaces with hers)is still after revenge on the Lord Of The Radch, is forced instead to work for them.

It's always hard to judge the middle book of a trilogy but I loved this book as much (or possibly more than) the first one.

God, this book is so good. Leckie's excellent worldbuilding continues, and I love, love, love that Ancillary Sword is an actual sequel, rather than an unimaginative repackaging of its predecessor. Instead, we get new settings! New complications! A new plot that builds on the previous one. And so much character development, all of it spot on. There's so much to enjoy here; like Ancillary Justice, this is a definite recommendation.

Excellent follow up to Ancillary Justice! Breq is now one of my favorite fictional characters. Excited about book three (Ancillary Mercy) and totally in love with Leckie‘s Radch universe. #bookcrush #booklove

Finally starting the next book in this series. Have forgotten a lot of context since reading the first one 2 years ago, but am picking it back up as I go along.

Big month for reading—41 books total. Heavy on comics &, as always, SciFi & fantasy. Ancillary Sword was my fav—Breq! For other reasons too but I ❤️ this character. Ancillary Mercy was a great end, Perdido Street Station a fantastically weird read, The One-Eyed Man a SciFi thriller, Fence...because FENCING, A Treacherous Curse ‘cause ❤️Veronica Speedwell, beautiful The Language of Thorns, powerful Ghost Boys & Drowned City. Bonus—Deadly Class.

It‘s a rare thing when a sequel is as good as if not better than the first book in a series as is the case here—yes, I‘m saying it, I think Ancillary Sword is even better than Ancillary Justice. There‘s no learning curve, this is a world the reader is already familiar with, the plotting is outstanding and Breq continues to be a fascinating and compelling character. I can‘t wait to read Ancillary Mercy and see what happens next. Highly recommended!

Trying to get Litsy to work is an adventure today! Hopefully all the hiccups are worked out soon. While that all happens, it‘s time to start another book. I have a friend who wants to finish the Imperial Radch Trilogy which means I need to read the tagged book and Ancillary Mercy yesterday!

Ancillary Sword continued the themes of colonisation, slavery and cultural assimilation & appropriation which were introduced in Ancillary Justice. It introduces the concept of a race-based class structure within Radch society. So many parallels to our own world and a great story too.

Not quite as riveting and engaging as the first book. But still good. Did a lot of solid character building/introduction, and set things up for a rocking third book. The ending was pretty popping. Can‘t wait to read the next one!

This book is excellent! The characters are interesting, the world is really well-drawn, and the story is great. I really want to dive right into book three but I have two library books that need to be read first.

It‘s 14 degrees outside, we are expecting three inches of snow (not a lot, I know, but excuse enough), the kids are visiting Grandma & Papa and I think we all know what that means—time to stay inside & curl up with another book. From WWII I‘m jumping ahead, way into the future of Leckie‘s fantastic space opera. Loved the first book (now one of my “trust me” recommendations) and excited to continue with the story.

I loved this sequel to Ancillary Justice. The world building is so comprehensive and fascinating, and Breq is such a compelling and heart-breaking character. Luckily, I already have the third book, Ancillary Mercy, queued up and ready to read!

September's looking to be the month of sequels for me. I'm making serious headway in The Story of a New Name, I just started The Stone Sky, and I got this and Ian Tregillis's The Liberation waiting in the wings.

Sequels can be hard to pull off, but this one is utterly fantastic! Painted on a somewhat smaller canvas than Ancillary Justice (although the political and social implications from the first book are not forgotten), this book takes a look at our protagonist in command on a Station and planet. Sci-fi at its finest. 5🚀s!

Apparently, I like to read books whose titles contain objects that are #sharp! This collage shows a few of the more recent reads, and doesn't even include things that are SOMETIMES sharp, like vampires or cats! #ANDITSAUGUST
