peaKnit @mdm139 I cried. The movies are so darned predictable but I don‘t care one bit this year. I‘m focusing on the good😊 5y
TEArificbooks I cried too. I figure out that he was her son and loved them singing together. 5y
peaKnit @mdm139 agree! And it worked out so perfect the way I wish real life would!❤️ 5y

This book, ya'll!!! If you're looking for a way to connect with the deeper meaning of Christmas and be less frazzled, I HIGHLY recommend The Greatest Gift. The writing is different and I've had to turn off my inner editor (which is good for me), but it's poetic and rich. 💙 Love!

Pickpick

My family = Advent beginners: we are learning it as we go! I've always attended churches that do not participate in this. My entire life. Once I read about what Advent was (and also about the church calendar, etc), I knew I wanted this in my life. This book was recommended by a friend to accompany Advent.

I love this. It took a few days for my kids to get used to Ann's writing style. Lovely but with fragments + pauses. She has a style of her own.

josie281 Ann is wonderful! Jen Hatmaker, Ann, and Glennon are my favorite soulsisters! We do our advent on Sunday only because life but it is a meaningful time. 8y
[DELETED] 3517561138 I have this also and we love it. And like you I grew up in a church (Assembly of God) that did not participate in Advent or even have Christmas Eve services or anything! I thought that was normal until I met my husband, a Lutheran, and realized my childhood church has completely left Jesus out of the Christmas season! So weird!!! Now celebrating Advent and participating in Advent services at church is the best part of our holiday! 8y
intothehallofbooks @josie281 I love those women too! I also love Tsh Oxenreider + Shauna Niequist because of how they talk about slowwwing down + that's the only way *I really function well. When I began to really dig into the work of these women: THAT is how I found out about Advent for the first time! (Ann + Tsh) I was so embarrassed to have been thru life believing and yet not know this 😳So I've been studying all year. Such sweet time at my house right now! 8y

intothehallofbooks @Prairiehomelibrarian @josie281 Your comments are both so, so encouraging to me! 😍 @Prairiehomelibrarian Thank you for sharing this! This is such a wonderful time + I sooo wish I could have done this as a child. I'm thankful I'm able to fumble thru now with my family. Tho I would loooove to experience this in a church setting instead of only in my home. 8y
Otherworld_Library I grew up Catholic and loved lighting the advent candle every week during the season! It's the only thing I still do. 8y
Kimzey So happy you have discovered Advent! I grew up in the Episcopal Church and have always loved the rhythm of the liturgical calendar and particularly the seasons of preparation, Advent and Lent. I'm not familiar with the book. Are the Advent wreath, the lighting of the candles and readings a part of her/your observance? That's a tradition that really speaks to me! 😍 8y
annahenke I'm doing a special advent read as well! It's really good! I don't have kids but this would be a good one for families. 8y
intothehallofbooks @annahenke Thank you, thank you! I love the look of this + we're all huge Narnia fans over here. I just added it to my to-buy list. 👏🏻👏🏻 8y
intothehallofbooks @Otherworld_Library This is wonderful! I feel like I would have loved lighting the candles too if I'd have been able to participate when I was growing up. I'm loving it now, so much. 😊 8y
intothehallofbooks @Kimzey This book is a devotional focused around the Jesse Tree + the lineage of Christ during Advent. I've spent this whole year reading + studying about this: the wreath, candles, etc. I have used Let Us Keep The Feast + whatever else I can get my hands on. I want to know more about it all, particularly about daily readings/prayers. So I'm still studying 😊 I love it all. So much. And I agree, the rhythm is just so wonderful. Recs are welcome!😉 8y
Coleen I am & grew up Lutheran & this conversation is enlightening to me. I just assumed all Christians celebrated Advent. Enjoy this season! 🙏😊 8y
Daisey @intothehallofbooks @annahenke I also love the Advent season and will have to look up a few of these recs for my own or my church's small group studies for the future! 🕯 Thanks for sharing! 8y
Daisey @intothehallofbooks Not sure if this is relevant to you or not, but I looked up Advent in Narnia on Goodreads, saw recent reviews from NetGalley readers, and checked there to find that it is still available. My NetGalley request was approved today, as if my December TBR isn't already long enough! 8y
