Advent in Narnia
Advent in Narnia: Reflections for the Season | Heidi Haverkamp
6 posts | 4 read | 8 to read
"Walking into Advent can be like walking through the wardrobe." With its enchanting themes of snow and cold, light and darkness, meals and gifts, temptation and sin, forgiveness and hope--and even an appearance by Father Christmas--C. S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe fits naturally into the Advent season. As the reader seeks a storied king and anticipates the glorious coming of Christmas, these twenty-eight devotions alternate between Scripture and passages from the novel to prompt meditation on Advent themes. Each devotion also includes questions for reflection. The book also provides several resources for churches, including four sessions for small group discussion and ideas for creating a "Narnia Night" for families. Readers will ultimately come to know God better while journeying through Narnia.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This devotional book was something I discovered while visiting my parents. I enjoyed it so much that I am purchased my own copy to use again next year, and I plan to read through The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe along with it next year!

Also, sorry in advance for the bunches of posts that I‘m about to do to catch up from the last two days!

Getting ready for #wintergames with team #MistletoeManiacs and @Clwojick as well as #bookspinbingo with @TheAromaofBooks

I really want to try and finish the #BOTM reading challenge for 2021 as well, so I had to add some non-holiday books to my list. Super excited to be part of this year‘s games, and the tagged book that I just found on my mom‘s shelf!

This quote from the introduction to the devotional Advent in Narnia sums up my thoughts perfectly! I read it fairly quickly without rereading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe since the story is familiar to me, but I really enjoyed the Biblical connections and reflections. I hope to recommend it for small group study at my church next Advent and think it would be a great family study as well.

I don't own a designated ereader, but have book apps on my phone and this set on my iPad. I've never actually used iBooks or Audible but the rest get a fair amount of use, with Kindle and Overdrive being my favorites. The apps on my phone mean I really do always have a book with me which, along with convenient library access, is why I tend to read mostly ebooks these days.

merelybookish Any e-reading I do is on my phone. So easy! Great for waiting in lines or middle of the night. 8y

I saw a comment about this book recently and thought it sounded like an interesting Advent study. It is still available on NetGalley, and my request was approved today.
