And just like that I'm stressed out about this whole acquisition thing. Time to get off of Facebook 😔

(PS: apologies in advance if you're offended by my non-book post 🙄)

Lauren_reading At least you didn‘t tag it under Untitled 😂 7y
DGRachel I‘m choosing to rephrase that in my mind as “if we leave the background structure exactly the same, it will not be compatible with the next iOS upgrade” and assuming that just applies to technical app background stuff that doesn‘t affect the day-to-day functioning of our little family. 😉 {{hugs}} 7y
ghosthost @LaurenReads Oh dear! And I just posted something under Untitled. Oops! 😂 7y

Bookzombie I love your non-book post. 😉 I‘m also stressed out though. 7y
RowReads1 *sigh* 7y
Lauren_reading @ghosthost 😂😂Facebook is getting too crazy, I‘m just going to stay on Litsy and be happy 7y
erinreads @LaurenReads 😂😂😂 Tempted to just start putting all my posts under Untitled. Also, I‘ve literally never even thought/had any opinion about people doing that or getting upset over non-book posts. It takes like .2 seconds to keep scrolling. 7y
ghosthost @LaurenReads I‘m glad I don‘t have a Facebook account now. @swishandflick That comment is scary. Having Litsy break or disappear is the stuff of nightmares. 7y
PenguinInFlight @swishandflick I SO feel you. I‘ve never seen any of this negativity on Litsy, but the convo hits FB and it gets out of control. Sooooooo stressful. 7y
JacqMac Right. I‘m sure he‘s busy today, but I‘d feel much better if he was commenting on Litsy instead of FB. 7y
JacqMac @erinreads 😂 Yes! 7y
swishandflick RIGHT?! It's never even occured to me that people would get upset about something so silly! @erinreads @ghosthost @LaurenReads 7y
PenguinInFlight @erinreads HA! I had a similar temptation of wanting to post 25 “untitled/unknown” pics of my dog in a row. 😂😂 Seriously, though. Ugh. I completely I didn‘t realize this was an issue? I like seeing bookish lives, and offering support to those that need it. 7y
Melissa_J @JacqMac exactly! If it‘s about Litsy, post on Litsy! 7y
Melissa_J Honestly, if someone posts too many non-bookish things just unfollow them. It‘s not that difficult 🤣 I like your non-bookish posts 👍🏻 7y
PenguinInFlight @JacqMac I don‘t feel like he is being very helpful, either. 😔Maybe it‘s just me. I don‘t think the new “owners” understand Litsy and the things we love about it. (edited) 7y
erinreads @PenguinInFlight I love getting a glimpse into everyone‘s lives, book related or not! Also, I‘ll admit that my favorite hashtag on here is #catsoflitsy and I don‘t care if there‘s a book in the picture or not, so 🤷🏼‍♀️😹 7y
PenguinInFlight @erinreads yes! I love #catsoflitsy and #dogsoflitsy. If the animal pics stop, I will be a very sad panda. 7y
ElishaLovesBooks I happen to like non-bookish posts as I think it helps me to decide whether I would like a book that person is recommending. I really really feel like this is the place I want to be; that people understand me here. I am now really worried that the changes won‘t be for the better (I hate change anyway😂) It‘s crazy to me how the sense of community falls apart as soon as fb is involved😞😩 (edited) 7y
BookNAround @swishandflick I think @DGRachel is exactly right in her comment above. It wasn‘t worded well on his part but I don‘t think he has any interest in destroying our happy place. I‘ve been on LibraryThing for more than a decade and I‘d say that they are very deliberate in everything they do so I do think they‘ll do some serious due diligence before changing anything up. 7y
BookNAround Also, there‘s a decent Litsy discussion going on on MrBook‘s feed (as opposed to the shirty discussion on Facebook). 7y
JacqMac @PenguinInFlight It‘s not just you. And that is my fear as well. 7y
rubyslippersreads I think @DGRachel is right and he's just speaking in the technical sense. I enjoy both bookish and non-bookish posts, and don't give a hoot if someone posts under Untitled/Unknown. 😏 And @PenguinInFlight and @erinreads are right—we need #petsoflitsy. 😊 7y
ablachly Hello-LibraryThing‘s Head librarian here. @TimSpalding is totally talking about it from a technical sense. Just that maintenance is a thing, apart from feature development, etc. 7y
ablachly Also I love #catsoflitsy. 7y
mrozzz @erinreads 🙌🏻 7y
mrozzz @PenguinInFlight you still can!! 😏🐶 7y
Librariana @swishandflick - I'm following things from a slight distance, if that makes any sense 😊 I'm just sort of... watching? As I shared with @BarbaraTheBibliophage, I use Facebook sporadically because it *can* get negative/toxic there and I just don't want to engage in that type of discussion. It gives me some comfort to see people from LT jumping in on comments here... trying to clarify and assuage some of our worries/address concerns. 7y
PenguinInFlight @BarbaraTheBibliophage I agree. I just checked out @MrBook ‘s post, and I feel a bit more at ease seeing @TimSpalding ‘s responses. My biggest fear (and I think many others feel the same) is losing our family atmosphere, but they seem to recognize that and want to preserve it. Here‘s hoping. 🤞🏻 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Librariana @PenguinInFlight I‘m thinking of the perspectives here. There are 3-4 LT people answering and participating in our conversations. And there are a LOT more of us. Imagine how overwhelming it must be for them! I, for one, was planning to read my IRL book club book tonight. I think maybe I‘ll step back, take a breath and get some pages in. 💕💕 7y
kylienoele Your comment about the non-book post made me genuinely laugh 😂 I never realized that that was an issue for some people. Maybe they should just go to Good Reads 🤷🏼‍♀️ 7y
GarthRanzz I don‘t understand his need to point out “the next time the Facebook API changes”. Why does that matter to the Litsy app? Are they planning on tying it to Facebook, and if so, why? There‘s no need to link the two and I hate apps thinking they need to use Facebook as their way to create accounts. 7y
TimSpalding Hey. Indeed, I was talking about the technical part. There are a lot of people throwing out ideas and they‘re great. But they‘re not all going to happen at once! Anyway the message is that Litsy has developers for the first time in many months. We are very impressed by how solidly it was built. But it‘s going to need work going forward. Our first, most important job is that—preserving Litsy and doing the small things to keep it running smooth. 7y
minkyb @swishandflick I made the mistake of joining the Facebook group. Too much for me. I was not anxious at all but reading all the FB threads was overwhelming. 7y
OrangeMooseReads I haven‘t been to the Facebook page (and I‘m thinking I don‘t want to), but are people seriously that bent out of shape over “untitled” posts and the occasional no book related posts? 7y
swishandflick Thanks @TimSpalding @ablachly 🙌🏽 I appreciate the clarification! 🤗 7y
swishandflick @OrangeMooseReads Yup, there's a whole thread around people saying that anything not specifically about a book "shouldn't be allowed" ? 7y
Jess7 I‘m not sure about everyone on Facebook, but some may be worried with the integration and how big Litsy could get that non bookish people may turn the app into Facebook or Instagram and start advertising things or complaining about drama which happens on Facebook. I agree, you can unfollow those people, but advertising type crap could get tied to our precious book pages. I personally don‘t want to start seeing people sell R&F, lipsense etc here (edited) 7y

LibraryThing has acquired Litsy - is anyone familiar with them? I'm not so I'm not sure what to think yet. Here's hoping they don't swoop in and try to change a bunch of stuff!

(There's also a FB group about this called "Onward Litsy!" if you're curious)

Roselyn_Reads Oh no. I hope they d not make any changes 7y
Kappadeemom I just saw this!! I use LibraryThing a little but I hope they don‘t change too much on us! 7y
sloanghost Librarything is basically an alternative to Goodreads, with more of a focus on organizing books you have. You can shelve something like 200 books free and beyond that you have to buy a membership. My librarian friend likes it and prefers it to GR. It is maybe less marketing focused than GR? But don't quote me, I'm no kind of business expert. 7y

OrangeMooseReads I also hope they don‘t go and change things. Litsy is fine how it is 7y
pilardib I was just about to post this too! I don't know them but I hope they'll only make small changes. I like Litsy as it is 7y
RowReads1 I just got the email. 🤷🏻‍♀️I don‘t use Goodreads as much as before Amazon took over. That might not be the best example😂. 7y
quietlycuriouskate At least it's not Facebook. 7y
RachLovesTV From their email, it didn't seem like they were planning on changing much, but who knows. I don't plan on using Library Thing because I've been organizing and cataloging my books on Goodreads for 10 years. 🤷‍♀️ Hopefully that means my Litsy experience won't change at all. 7y
Cathythoughts I‘m just barely getting the hang of Litsy.... hope there isn‘t too much change. Litsy works 7y
Well-ReadNeck I use LibraryThing instead of Goodreads and I love it!!! I this move encourages the great bookish people to be on LibraryThing. I found Goodreads to have too many negatives(especially pressure from publishers and trolling). They are a very bookish lot and I think they should be a good fit. 7y
thebluestocking I‘ve used both Goodreads (for tracking my reading) and LibraryThing (for tracking my book collection) for over ten years. I‘ve found LT to be unobtrusive. I think Litsy will be in good hands. And I‘ll bet the book catalog will vastly improve. 7y
Jabberwocky I saw this today as well! I‘m definitely a little anxious about the change but by all accounts that I‘ve heard our little community should be in safe and bookish hands. I just don‘t want much to change! 7y
kgriffith 👋🏻😊 I‘m an assistant librarian at LibraryThing and happy to answer questions as I‘m able (you can probably imagine that we have a lot of social media notifications going off all over the place right now) — definitely recommend reading the Q&A and joining the fb group if that‘s your jam: https://m.facebook.com/groups/181250115991736 7y
DreesReads I use librarything, but their focus is maintaining a personal or professional library. Our personal library is in constant flux (kids books get outgrown and passed on, I buy used books and resell or donate once read, husband gets review books for work), so I do not need so many of their features. The groups I have joined are not very active (or not active at all). I prefer Goodreads, I am in a few great groups. Many of the same people here. 7y
RowReads1 You have to pay? That‘s not cool 😎. 7y
Andrew65 @River_Voice Here, here! 7y
Andrew65 @Well-ReadNeck Tim Spalding is definitely a great book enthusiast which is good news, and hasn‘t sold out to Amazon . That has to be good news! 7y
Andrew65 @kgriffith It is a shame the discussion is on Facebook and not Litsy, as I don‘t have a Facebook account. I trust in Tim but given what Amazon did to Shelfari I am a tad worried at the same time. 7y
Andrew65 @RowReads1 When I joined Librarything they waved the cost if you came across from Shelfari, hopefully they would do the same thing for Litsy! 7y
BarbaraBB I have been on LibraryThing for years and very happy with it. Their catalogue is great, just as the way to organize your books. I prefer it to GR. I hope and think Litsy will be in good hands. 7y
AngieAvers I love LibraryThing. I've been using it since 2003. Here is my LT: https://www.librarything.com/catalog/BoundTogetherForGood&deepsearch=Search+your... 7y

This was a gift from my friend who is the author's aunt. He worked on Wall Street, so his tale was based on fact. I read it years ago, but the fact that the book jacket states that there is a debauched yacht of a Mexican billionaire leads me to believe #cocaine must be involved! #rockinmay

Cinfhen This sounds like the infamous scene from the book/movie 8y
DivineDiana @Cinfhen That's what I was thinking. Only saw the trailer. Decided a bit too depraved for my taste, despite my fondness for Leo! 😬 (edited) 8y
Cinfhen I read the book and saw the movie... I t was pretty despicable but darn entertaining 😜 8y
