The year is 1985. The place is Oxford University. Shortly after the novel opens there is a mysterious murder among the student body ‘champagne set‘. The story follows our likable, fish out of water, MC in her first weeks of school as she makes new friends, lands a job, navigates a world of fancy parties and would-be suitors, worries about homework and mostly attempts to find out who done it. I thought this was a really fun, escapist mystery.

🎊My Blind Date with a Book reveal!🎊

I won't read this until the new year but I'm excited. I've seen the cover and heard of Plum Sykes, but didn't really know anything about this book.

When I first started this book, I can admit I wasn‘t into it. But being a hot summer and stuck in the pool ( I know, poor me)... I ended up falling in love with this story! The whodunit mystery really took you on some twists and turns, and I was happy to be along for the ride all summer long.

A cheeky murder mystery set in the elite heart of Oxford university. Who murdered the beautiful fresher? Will Nancy snag her Next Duke? Will Ursula ever make it to the library? The book keeps you guessing, laughing, and touring the exclusive buildings, customs, and pass times of high society you‘ve maybe always wondered about.

Cold and flu reads. When the Lemsip tablets wear off, I pull the duvet up under my chin and play the crime thriller.

I loved Ursula and the million and one costume changes she and Nancy went through in the course of the story as well as the Oxford setting (ever since reading the Lord Peter Wimsey books I've been fascinated by Oxford). Also enjoyed all the 80s references. But the humor very often ventured into absurdity which slowly became tedious. It was mostly enjoyable but I was also glad when it was over.

Page 1 and I'm already finding this narrator highly relatable. 😀

I'm loving this book, and I don't know why I waited so long to read it! The only part I would ditch is the continual descriptions of 80s hair and clothing- you wouldn't do that in a contemporary mystery, so why now? #mystery #cozy #Anglophile

I've been sitting on this on my Kobo for a while and I'm back into cozies again! Plus with the Royal Wedding coming up, it's time to spend some time in an English town or two! #cozy #cozymystery #royalwedding

A cozy type mystery set in the ‘80s. I liked it enough to press on but the elaborate descriptions of the clothing was a tad annoying.

anhistorianabouttown I'm reading this right now, and have the same issue! It's otherwise fantastic but the continual descriptions are distracting 7y

Set in the over-the-top 80s at Oxford, this murder mystery was a throwback to a fashion era that never should have been. (I can say that since I graduated high school in 1988.) Mixing pop culture throwbacks with a peek into the life of Oxford's rich and spoiled, the country bumpkin heroine has to solve the mystery to earn her spot on the college paper staff. I didn't like the 80s when I was living in them and still not when reading about them.

Cinfhen Great review and though I'm not a fan of this author I'm all about the 80's 💜graduated HS in 1984🙌🏻🎉definitely stacking this one 7y
SandyW I love 80s fashions.... bring back shoulder pads! 7y

Found this during our move, nobody is claiming it. Reading it this weekend to see if it is appropriate for my 14 year old niece. Otherwise it will probably go to Goodwill.

slategreyskies I am so thankful for people who donate books to Goodwill! I‘ve gotten so many good books there at excellent prices! :) 7y

I just started this one and not sure it is my kind of book but not ready to bail yet.

ApoptyGina69 I was curious about this too. I read an article about her Oxford experience. Doesn't seem like my style either, but who knows? Looking forward to hearing how it goes. 🤗 7y

#TBRtemptation post 1! Released in May. Ursula, a studious country girl, arrives at Oxford in 1985 planning to study in gilded libraries. But she discovers a glamorous classmate murdered, & she's determined to a splash with the campus newspaper. She enlists American exchange student Nancy's help. As they navigate black-ties & secret dining societies, they suspect everyone, & Ursula may be the next to die! #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

😎🍦🍹 4th of JUly beach read alert!!!! As a massive Oxbridge-phile (I mean, I learned a *lot* from the cynical old communists at my undergrad, but we had neither sherry nor ghosts, and were absolutely the poorer for it, what is a life of the mind without unlimited sherry?!?), PGDIP satisfied in a big way. And as a lover of all things ridiculous, it's set in the 80s, perhaps the most ridiculous of decades. Fun and compulsively readable.
