Another Buwis Kindle (Risk My Kindle) shot for #BuwanNgMgaAkdangPinoy: This Side of Sunny by Agay Llanera (not in the Litsy database) which is set in a fictional beach in the Philippines called Gumamela Island. So the beach at Hale Manna is the perfect background for the book.

I can't stress on how much I love this book. It gave me all sorts of feels. From salivating over various descriptions of pastries to empathizing with Jessie's struggle to lose weight and find herself. Well, I shouldn't be surprised. All of Agay's works always make me feel strongly about her characters. Jessie is just one of them. I'm still smiling here as I recall the story. Definitely worth the read.

I found this Filipino YA book charming and I keep recommending it to friends. Also, this edition has the cutest cover. The main character is a baker so I gave this copy to a friend who also bakes! I hope she enjoys reading it, and maybe even get tempted to whip something up while she's reading.

pickDoesn't that title make you super curious about the book? I love that more Filipino authors are writing YA books. I found Choco Chip Hips to be a good read. Realistically Filipino with a lot of heart, I could really relate to the main character. Really enjoyed the bits about baking and dancing, but felt that the romance could have been further developed.
