Sweet on You | Carla de Guzman
post image
Pickpick

This was the perfect start to my holiday reading. De Guzman puts a distinctly Filipino twist on the familiar small business rivalry plot, complete with pranks, mouthwatering food and coffee descriptions, and some serious family issues for both leads. It‘s delightful AND a bit dark; my favourite combo.

And my goodness—Filipino Christmas sounds SO FUN! I want to join the celebration (minus the 4am Masses. I‘ll hit the 9pm ones instead).

xicanti Plus, as I said before, SWEET ON YOU is a great pick for #ReadingAsia2021, and for anyone curious about #romanceclass (the group of Filipino romance writers who work in English). De Guzman doesn‘t Americanize her work, so you get proper cultural immersion. 4y
Butterfinger That sounds wonderful. 4y
xicanti @Butterfinger it totally is. This was my second de Guzman (after THE QUEEN‘S GAME, a contemporary royal romance) and I really like how she writes. 4y

I‘m not a big #romantsy reader, but this was one of my first #blameitonlitsy purchases thanks to @Chachic and @bentchbites - it‘s a collection of short stories from independent authors in the Philippines, which I enjoyed a lot - most were very sweet, some felt very young (or made me feel crazy old!) but perfect beach reading!

In The Summer You Said Hello, Edward is working as a DJ when a familiar voice phones in. #spiritoftheradio #timbittunes

julesG Haven't seen either @Chachic or @bentchbites on Litsy for quite some time. 6y
Cinfhen Love the cover ~ screams summer 🐠☀️🏖 6y
TheKidUpstairs Looks cute! @julesG I was just thinking the same thing. 6y
rockpools @TheKidUpstairs @julesg I really enjoyed following their #romanceclass posts. 6y
rockpools @Cinfhen The whole book did! (Which makes it perfect middle-of-winter reading as far as I‘m concerned 🌞) 6y

It‘s almost the end of summer here in the PH but my summer TBR is still going strong. Lol. I‘m currently reading the tagged photo, and Sounds Like Summer is the only other one I haven‘t gotten to yet.

Here‘s a shot of all my summer recs from #romanceclass, and my current favorite juice drink! All Made in the Philippines! 😭

Chasing Mr. Prefect | Katt Briones

#ChasingMrPrefect was such a heartfelt and readable book. It gave me the college memories, even if I didn‘t graduate from the university Dresden was based on, nor took the same course as Cholo and Vinnie. Proves that some college org experiences are universal! Vinnie is rough and tough, but also a softy and I liked being in her head. And I love the side characters, especially Cholo‘s family. ♥️ #romanceclass #romantsy

Sounds Like Summer | Six de los Reyes

Six writes with the kind of honesty that commands your attention and makes you truly care about the characters - and in turn, the people who they would represent in your life. I won't claim to understand mental illness, but reading this taught me a bit about how I can properly show up and reach out and make a whole lot of difference. I know that I won't hold the answers, but I can help become one of their anchors to keep them from floating away. ⚓️
