The philosophies of the Age of Enlightenment create sweeping changes throughout 19th Century Europe, but to Hungary's despised nomads, the gypsies, the world is still a dark and very dangerous landscape. Adversaries both mortal and supernatural lurk in the shadows, waiting to strike without mercy. Imre, a half-gypsy horse trader, understands the danger to his small family all too well

Pickpick

This was the lowest of picks and the highest of so-so‘s. We follow Imre, a gypsy, in 1863 Hungary. His wife‘s mother, Anyeta, has died. She was an evil sorceress that unbeknownst to them will become more powerful in death. Lots of gypsy drama, bad decisions are made, and the 2nd half was way better than the 1st. But there was a line in here about how ‘her love electrifies me‘ that had me running to Wikipedia to look up the history of 👇🏼

Reggie electricity and when it shows up in Europe. The timing doesn‘t check out. So I felt like someone in the 2000‘s is telling this story instead of 1863 gypsy Imre and I felt bothered by it. Lol Overall it was alright. (edited) 3y
BookishMarginalia That cover creeps me out big time. 3y

Twainy Ahhh that cover! 3y
Centique What a good point you make about “electrify” You‘d make a great editor I bet 😘💕 3y
Reggie @Centique ❤️thanks, Paula. I never used to be like this. I think it‘s just the more you read the more your forced to separate the good from the bad. I remember my first year on Litsy I think I have only one book not a pick. And now I‘m full of so-so‘s. 3y
Centique @Reggie I‘m affected I think too but it‘s making me DNF. I have DNFed so many books this year - haven‘t put them on Litsy because most of the time they‘re fine, it‘s just me. 3y

This was from earlier today before work. I ran out of time to post. My god, I hate this cover. It‘s not really scary, just ugly. Only got a little ways in and it‘s great so far. Lots of gypsy drama already.

AmyG I loved reading at the laundromat. 4y
DinoMom I would totally judge that book by its cover! Not a very good cover choice😒. If I saw that cover in a bookstore, I probably wouldn‘t buy it. 4y
rabbitprincess BRB having nightmares about this cover 😱 4y

MicheleinPhilly Well that‘s a sure fire way to ensure no one sits near you. 4y
Centique 😂😂😂 what @MicheleinPhilly said 👍 3y
CoverToCoverGirl My vote on the cover is VERY scary. 🤓 3y
Reggie @AmyG me too. I‘ve always liked the comfort of the whirring sounds. 3y
Reggie @DinoMom me too but I was looking up books to pick for an Lmpbc group and this was a Bram Stoker award winner. Lol, so I came to it that way. 3y
Reggie @MicheleinPhilly @Centique if that‘s the case I might just strap it to my face and walk around that way when I go back to work. Lol 3y
Reggie @rabbitprincess @CoverToCoverGirl I just want to offer her some Visine. 3y
Tera66 That is terrifying. But I'm gonna stack it! 3y
Suet624 Damn! That‘s nasty! 3y
ValerieAndBooks Wow that makes the Thinner cover I complained about in my last post look tame 😳 3y

#AllHallowsRead #scarybookcovers #frightfest I've started this one a couple of times but haven't finished it. It's all about gypsies and mysticism. Need to get back to it.

Suzze Oh, crap. 8y
