Lots of wisdom. A book I'll revisit time and again. Some unforgettable nuggets. A little corny, but isn't self-help supposed to be? Kinda loses steam toward the end.
This is the second Brené Brown I‘ve read (after Atlas of the Heart) and I liked it enough to want my own copy. I like that the guideposts had a spectrum and that Brown emphasized that accepting yourself is not an item to check off the to-do list; it‘s an ongoing practice and some days it‘s easier than others.
Thank you for the #WondrousWednesday tag @Eggs 🤗
1ï¸âƒ£ My nudge word this year is “mindful†& I try to think it when I make choices from food to what I want to read.
2ï¸âƒ£ From the tagged book: “Let go of who you think you‘re supposed to be; embrace who you are.†I spent a lot of my younger years trying to be someone I‘m not so I find this encouraging.💜
3ï¸âƒ£ “Growth is uncomfortable because you‘ve never been here before.†(Or a variation of it) 😉
This was like listening to an extended TED Talk for an audience of upper middle class professionals. The author presents us with 10 guideposts to living ‘wholeheartedly‘. Brown comes across as a smart, relatable and engaging researcher. I enjoyed listening and took away some nuggets of wisdom (especially regarding authenticity) but I‘d have liked more insight into her research and overall I felt this wasn‘t quite speaking to me.
This was fine. I see why the people who recommended it to me did so--it has lots of great advice and points and observations and suggestions. I think this author is the most successful of the "recovering career mom gurus." She's smart and sage.

Glad I got this on Audible. It‘ll definitely be read again & likely again after that🤷ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸ I hate re-reads🙄🤦ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸
I think it‘s safe to say that I got some value from this book! 😆
The 10th anniversary edition has a section for note taking and Brene encourages the reader to inhabit the book in order to integrate it into your life. So I went for it! I learnt so much. The integration into my life part will take some time and practice and probably a lot of forgetting and then revisiting. I‘m so glad I read this.
5 stars.
I have a feeling this book is going to be life altering for me. So many people have recommended Brene Brown to me for years. I have loved quotes I have seen. I can‘t believe it took a whim when browsing my kindle yesterday to start this, the first book of hers I have actually read. Timely, powerful, resonant truth.
If we‘re working toward relationships based in love, belonging, and story, we have to start in the same place: I am worthy.
It‘s also impossible to practice compassion from a place of resentment. If we‘re going to practice acceptance and compassion, we need boundaries and accountability.
The gifts of imperfection, ensure that you will reflect on what Dr Brene Brown has to say and think through how to take what she says and put it into practice. Excellent book. Recommend for.folks who are in need of a tune up.
I have a little bit of resistance to Beene Brown for not better reason than so many people like her, but I enjoyed this and thought there were some interesting insights here.
Definitely worth a reread, and for the most part holds up really well! (Except for one anecdote at the end which screams white privilege on this read).
What I‘ve always liked about Brené Brown is her background as a research professor, and that she explains her methodologies at the end of the book. That for me puts this book more in the genre of psychology rather than self-help.
Definitely took away some new insights.
Today is a good day, and I‘m spending it revisiting an old favorite. It‘s been years since I read Brene Brown, and wanted to reconnect before delving into her latest book. Plus, i really need to hear some of her words again at this point in my life. 🥰
Love Brene Brown and her findings on the innate human desires. This book is a journey of 10 guideposts with authentic examples of living/not living the Wholehearted Life. It is information supported by the research and life experience from the lady who scientifically studies, interviews, lives and breathes these human condition questions. This info allows us to discover through reflection what is best in our own lives to living wholeheartedly.
I‘m reading this as part of a book club with my friends. It is really bothering me. I don‘t know if it‘s the repetition of gooey words like “wholeheartedness†(I can be a tad cynical) or that the ideas are hard to swallow. I‘m only on page 31, so maybe this is coming later(?), but I would love to see more of the data and hear her data-gathering methods explained clearly instead of just reading over and over “based on my work.â€

“The opposite of play is not work—the opposite of play is depression.â€
“Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.“ - Howard Thurman
“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.“ - Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
“Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light.“
The dark does not destroy the light; it defines it. It's our fear of the dark that casts our joy into the shadows.
Not as good as Dare to Lead, but still a worthwhile read with some valuable insights. I find Brene' Brown's work really grounding for me.
âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸ This was my first time reading Brene Brown and I‘m way behind but this book is excellent and I think it‘s aged well. It gave me a lot to think about and put into practice. There were a couple times where I would‘ve loved more examples but I appreciate that she doesn‘t waste words. I highly recommend and I‘m happy to find out she is not overrated!

Listening to Brené Brown always helps me feel more centered and connected. I especially appreciated the many insightful nuggets about wholeheartedness, digging deep, shame, boundaries, and of course, perfectionism. A great invitation to slow down and self-reflect. ?
I loved this book and now I must listen to/read all books and podcasts
Good news/bad news. Went for a walk to finish my audio book ( finished Breath ✔ï¸) but my orthotics don‘t work in my new runners ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ my feet hurt so much I had to call my husband to come pick me up 🤦ðŸ»â€â™€ï¸ðŸ˜† so I started this while I waited for him to come â¤ï¸ honest to god, I don‘t know what I‘d do without books
I‘m listening to this podcast series and reading the book along with it. So good. So insightful snd many “a-ha†moments. Stay awkward my friends!
Darn you Brene‘ for having my number! Seriously great podcast to listen during the “midlife unravelingâ€â€¦I need to get back to my daily gratitude practice, clearly.
“We need to see that standing on the shore and catastrophisizing about what could happen if we talked honestly about our fears is actually more painful than grabbing the hand of a trusted companion and crossing the swamp. And most important we need to learn why constantly trying to maintain our footing on the shifting shore as we gaze across to the other side of the swamp—where out worthiness waits for us—is much harder work than trudging across.â€
Some books are worth the reread. “When we can let go of what other people think and own our story, we gain access to our worthiness-the feeling that we are enough just as we are and that we are worthy of love and belonging.â€
I read this book this past weekend while on a personal retreat. It was a perfect book to read on a day for intentional stillness, solitude, and self-care.
Book Club read for my yoga studio's book club.
ââââ Brené Brown has meant so much to me this year. It's a slow process; it's like I one of her books and it's so amazing, but I don't implement everything I read about right away. I think there has been a slow shift though... I hope so. Her research on what lets people live a Wholehearted life is yet another blow to the traditional Christian narrative of love your neighbour but please hate your sinful self as much as possible. Highly recommended
I'm closer but not always quite there yet. Brené's words always hit me right in the gut.
You know reading Brown's books who will always walk away with several nuggets of wisdom and perspective that you can put into immediate action. It's like turning the mirror on your soul.
