The Art of Happiness, 10th Anniversary Edition
The Art of Happiness, 10th Anniversary Edition: A Handbook for Living | Dalai Lama
An updated edition of a beloved classic, the original book on happiness, with new material from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Dr. Howard Cutler. Don't miss the Dalai Lama's newest, The Book of Joy. Nearly every time you see him, he's laughing, or at least smiling. And he makes everyone else around him feel like smiling. He's the Dalai Lama, the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibet, a Nobel Prize winner, and a hugely sought-after speaker and statesman. Why is he so popular? Even after spending only a few minutes in his presence you can't help feeling happier. If you ask him if he's happy, even though he's suffered the loss of his country, the Dalai Lama will give you an unconditional yes. What's more, he'll tell you that happiness is the purpose of life, and that the very motion of our life is toward happiness. How to get there has always been the question. He's tried to answer it before, but he's never had the help of a psychiatrist to get the message across in a context we can easily understand. The Art of Happiness is the book that started the genre of happiness books, and it remains the cornerstone of the field of positive psychology. Through conversations, stories, and meditations, the Dalai Lama shows us how to defeat day-to-day anxiety, insecurity, anger, and discouragement. Together with Dr. Howard Cutler, he explores many facets of everyday life, including relationships, loss, and the pursuit of wealth, to illustrate how to ride through life's obstacles on a deep and abiding source of inner peace. Based on 2,500 years of Buddhist meditations mixed with a healthy dose of common sense, The Art of Happiness is a book that crosses the boundaries of traditions to help readers with difficulties common to all human beings. After being in print for ten years, this book has touched countless lives and uplifted spirits around the world. From the Hardcover edition.

My father gave me this book during my formative years... and later, suggested I gift it to a friend who was struggling. A smile bursts forth just thinking of how wonderful my father is, and of the guidance he laid in my path.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

The image above shows how I feel after having read this inspiring book.

The Dalai Lama believes that the purpose of life is to seek happiness. To achieve this you need to do only one thing: train your mind. Because that's what happiness is, a mental state.

If a problem is such that it can be remedied, then there's no need to worry about it. It's more sensible to spend the energy focusing on the solution rather than worrying about the problem. Alternatively, if there's no solution, then there's also no point in being worried about it, because you can't do anything about it anyway. In that case, the sooner you accept this fact, the easier it will be on you.

1) I am a human being. 2) I want to be happy and I don't want to suffer. 3) Other human beings, like myself, also want to be happy and don't want to suffer.

Day two of #BFC28! I‘m on a good streak with my meditation practice (five days in a row already—I started a bit early) and about thirty minutes of reading this morning. My biggest burst of energy is first thing in the morning, so I try to get my meditation done before I go to work rather than waiting until I get home in the evening. I‘m about 60% through The Art of Happiness now, also!

An end result, or a product of patience and tolerance is forgiveness. When you are truly patient and tolerant, then forgiveness comes naturally.

We also often add to our pain and suffering by being overly sensitive, overreacting to minor things, and sometimes taking things too personally.
