Giants: The Dwarves of Auschwitz. Yehuda Koren, Eilat Negev

In this account of the Ovitz family, seven of whose ten members were dwarves, readers bear witness to the terrible irony of the Ovitz's fate: being burdened with dwarfism helped them to endure the Holocaust. Through research and interviews with the youngest Ovitz daughter, Perla, the troupe's last surviving memeber, and other relatives, the authors weave the tale of a beloved and successful family of performers who were famous entertainers in Central Europe until the Nazis deported them to Auschwitz in May 1944.

I‘m fascinated by WWII history. The real life Seven Dwarfs of Auschwitz. I‘m happy that I‘m done with school work for the semester - I can read for fun again!

I do not want to ruin this story for anyone so will describe the book by only saying it is; heart breaking, harrowing, brutal, honest, awe inspiring and highlights the importance of family!

Random, but I saw this book at goodwill and thought I‘d mention it. I read it a couple of years ago. It‘s a nonfiction account of some of the fucked up experimentation Mengele performed on what he perceived as medical oddities. This family is pretty fascinating. #tbrtemptation

GondorGirl I've read this one too. Well written, but heartbreaking. 7y
Libby1 My mother-in-law was just speaking with me about this story this morning! 7y

OrangeMooseReads I‘ve seen this one multiple times at B&N and have thought about picking it up. 7y
britt_brooke @prowlix Good to know - thanks! 7y
britt_brooke @tricksytails No, I haven‘t. I‘m not sure I‘d be interested in a fictional account, but I have heard good things about the book. Maybe one day! 7y
britt_brooke @OrangeMooseReads That‘s where I first saw it. Seems like I bought the ebook in the end. It‘s worth a read. 7y
shawnmooney Thanks for reminding me about this - it was @LeahBergen who first brought it to my attention. 😍 7y

The Lilliput Troupe (an all-dwarf Jewish family) was a successful vaudeville act in the 1930's until Hitler came into power. Somehow, they all survived Auschwitz AND Mengele's experiments. #Inspiring or what? #PhotoADayNov16 #NonfictionNovember

Cinfhen I love your choice, definitely not a book or story I was familiar with! 8y
Notafraidofwords Wasn't familiar with this. 8y

Mehso-so

Totally random and bizarre, but an interesting look into the lives of those who lived through that asshole Mengele's experiments.
