Asking for Trouble
Asking for Trouble: A Novel | Elizabeth Young
11 posts | 13 read | 12 to read
Unmarried, thirty-year-old Sophy Metcalfe told a little white he to soothe her nagging mother. The white lies name was "Dominic," the ideal boyfriend: charming, successful, the kind of prospective son-in-law that would make any mother proud. But now that Sophy's thin and beautiful sister, Belinda, is getting married, Dominic is going to have to make an appearance in the flesh -- which should be a pretty neat trick ... since the genuine article vanished from Sophy's life after a single, singularly unmemorable evening. So she resorts to a very drastic measure -- aka Josh Carmichael, the escort she hires at the very last minute, sight unseen. But the trouble with white lies is that they tend to multiply. The trouble with rugged, too-sexy, and independent Josh is ... well, that Sophy's actually beginning to like him! Even if they make it through the Wedding Day from Hell together -- with its new intrigues, old flames, and all-too-familiar faces -- there's the night that follows... and, of course, the morning after. And that could end up being the biggest trouble of all! A hip, witty, and freshly fantastic delight, Asking for Trouble is the most hilarious and knowing novel to make the scene since Bridget Jones first set pen to paper to record her most intimate innermost thoughts.

Liz Young is my favorite romance author, and I wish she'd written more books! This one starts with a #fauxmance between Sophy and Josh- she needs a date to keep her mom off her back, and he's just the guy to do it. But of course, Sophy develops real feelings for him, just as a family drama starts to heat up. The popular movie The Wedding Date was based on this book, but changed some important elements of the story. #TropesInAugust
@Klou

Klou I've never heard of this author. I'll have to go check out her books on Goodreads. Sounds good!! 4y

A fun romp similar to the movie that was based on it, The Wedding Date with Debra Messing. Most of the elements of the movie were there, just laid out a bit differently. This was a nice, light easy read.
Note: this was written by an British author & therefore has a lot of slang that may not be familiar to American readers. While I had fun looking some things up, I eventually just had to keep reading & gloss over some in order to keep up the flow.

Some light reading on the plane! This is the book that the movie The Wedding Date was based on. Hope it‘s just as fun!

Josie I love that you didn't up your goal after meeting it. You can just read whatever you want and not worry about it! I might have to make my goal smaller next year so I can do that. 7y
AnneCecilie @Josie sometimes it's easy to forget, but reading isn't a competition. For me it's about the good reading experiences. So I don't want to be "forced" into reading something, just to meet some goal. 7y
Josie @AnneCecilie I completely agree! At the beginning of the year, I made lists and signed up for challenges all dictating what I would read. That lasted about 2 months. I just wasn't enjoying the reading I was doing, and it wasn't much! 7y
Sace Love this conversation. I've already started thinking about next year and I'm wondering if I should forgo the Goodreads challenge next year. I don't know how I feel about quantifying my reading all the time. 7y

Mehso-so
