Midweek update for #bfcr2 isn‘t that great as far as books. I have been in the biggest reading slump lately. I did manage to clean and sort through bookshelves yesterday, so I‘m hoping to pick up a good book for a few hours after the July 4th festivities tomorrow. I hope everyone is having a good week, and if not, that it improves! I hope to check in with some progress this weekend 😄 I did walk a lot at the zoo today, so that‘s something!!

wanderinglynn What a fun walk! And great photo. 🙌🏻 For your reading slump, don‘t beat yourself up. It happens to all of us. Focus on other activities. Adjust your goal if needed. ❤️ 5y
cobwebmoth What a cute picture! I've always enjoyed walking at the zoo. 5y
Megabooks Cute deer! The zoo is a great place for walking. I‘m glad you had fun! 💜💜 5y
rockpools So sweet! And hey, you‘re still getting out and being active- maybe that‘s what you need right now. Enjoy your 4th July celebrations 😊 5y
Emilymdxn Book slumps happen to the best of us! Getting out, being active and enjoying at the zoo and for the Fourth of July is an achievement in itself! Slumps come and go, it‘ll end sometime and I‘m sending love and hoping it ends soon 5y

#TBRtemptation post 2! The founding of the London Zoo in the mid-1880s was no small undertaking--it involved diplomats, traders, scientists, and naturalists. It was the first modern zoo, founded in Dickensian London, in the age of Darwin and Queen Victoria. It was a grandiose enterprise that is recounted here. #blameLitsy #blameMrBook 😎

bedandabook This sounds fascinating! 7y

Pickpick

An amazing book looking at the creation & formative years of the London Zoo through the eyes of the men there. It's fascinating to see the different perspectives and priorities of the animal preserver compared to the architect or head keeper. A hard read at times, as they imported animals they had never seen before. But even with hardship it was a joy to read about how dedicated most were to science & goal of bringing such wonder to people.-Rachel

Joining @MrBook in making your TBR list even langer with this #TBRtempation post. I love animals and have always loved going to the zoo. (Though lately I've become more doubtful about how animal friendly a zoo really is) This book tells the story of the founding of London Zoo. How were the animals shipped, how do you care for them ans how do you even start building a zoo? The real life Zoo Tycoon experience. How do you feel about zoos?

MCYmermaid I am largely modern zoo positive, not just for my personal experiences, but also for the roles they play in education & conservation. 8y
erzascarletbookgasm Sounds like an insightful read. I love the cover, so gorgeous! 8y
erzascarletbookgasm I believe zoos play an important role in conservation, education, and research; at least the modern ones which take part in breeding programmes. 8y

Hooked_on_books I think people are much more likely to want to protect animals that they have a personal connection with, and zoos can provide that. As long as the animal welfare is considered, I am pro-zoo (and aquarium). 8y
MrBook Whoa 😳!!! I need this pronto!!! Thank you for sharing! I feel bad for the animals 😔. 8y
I-read-and-eat @MCYmermaid @erzascarletbookgasm @Hooked__on__books Interesting views. I do certainly agree that modern zoos are great. We have some amazing ones in the Netherlands that keep improving their exitibits to best accomodate the animals. Also, the zoos are the main reason I love animals so much. However I feel we might need more regulation in this field. Sometimes I see such small enclosures and sad animals. 8y
I-read-and-eat With some more laws concerning animal welfare zoos are an amazing way of educating people. 8y
