• Clearly the product of Asimov's brilliant, scientific mind, this story should have impressed me more than it did. My first Asimov, I was excited to read some sci-fi by one of the masters of the genre; however, it fell flat for me on account of my dislike of the characters and being confused for some parts (OK, most parts) of the story. I should have liked the two MCs (they were children) but I thought they were incredible brats ⬇️

bibliobliss ...and I found myself getting bored with the story very quickly. This is probably just a case of "It's not you -- it's me" and I'll definitely try another Asimov in the future. It wasn't horrible by any means, but I had to spend too much time trying to follow the story (for instance, which character was speaking, etc) which took me out of it too often. It was so-so for me, at this time • 5y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ve read a few of his now, and felt this way about all of them. The best for me was I, Robot, which really a collection of short stories, so still not a lot of connection to MC‘s. 5y
bibliobliss @Riveted_Reader_Melissa ? "I, Robot" is on the list; here's hoping I find at least some of his stories enjoyable ? 5y

The fun things you can find when looking for a Y science fiction for your #LitsyAtoZ. This was a short story by Isaac Asimov involving some aliens seeking a trade deal with a new planet, but things quickly get out of hand after they crash and are found by the children of the locals they were supposed to meet.

Perspective is everything...

Thanks for an unexpected find @SerialReader

JazzFeathers It's been such a long time since last l read Asimov. I might try this one. 6y
Riveted_Reader_Melissa @JazzFeathers It‘s really short, so it won‘t take you long. 6y

#SerialReader

An intriguing little Asimov short about two youths (and two fathers) who encounter spacefaring alien explorers. No one can dispute Asimov is a clever storyteller, and imaginative, and scientifically sophisticated; but I‘m realizing now, reading him as an adult, how lifeless his prose often feels.

tournevis Yes! I'm not the only one! It's all so flat! 7y
CSeydel @tournevis Not just you. I find his nonfiction much more engaging than his fiction. I want to like his fiction - I like the ideas - but I don‘t find him a very lively writer. 7y

I found it interesting and entertaining. It was certainly a quick read. There were some ideas which intrigued me. The twist at the end blew me away and had me laughing. I did not see that coming.

This is also the first thing I read on the #SerialReader. Needless to say that I absolutely love the idea and will be using it to read a lot of stuff from now on. #classic #scifi

Libby1 Hello! Thanks for following my page. Yes, Serial Reader is fantastic. I use it all the time. 7y

Asimov is one of my favorite writers and even his B sides can pack a punch.

I really dislike so much science fiction and this, imho was@dreadful. I‘m certain some would love it. Me? Negative 50 🌟

tournevis It's not his best by far, so I can't blame you for not liking it. There is much better and newer out there. 7y
Samplergal @tournevis No it isn‘t. I‘ve read one of his books in the past and didn‘t hate it. I‘m just not into science fiction, but my challenge this year is a lot of comics(?) and science fiction. Ugh. I may not make it. 👽 7y
jonsnowe I wann try ths 1 7y
aniket.barik I actually enjoyed it. The ending was funny. I did not see that coming. P.S. I love Sci-fi. 7y

An interesting, short sci-fi novel. I loved the ending! A good little twist I didn't see coming.

Strange scifi somehow capturing readers' curiosity! Alternating viewpoints unfold the plot's three layers. Prose flows smoothly even during bursts of very soft science dialogue. Expected short story plot twists may or may not surprise. Challenged perspectives and optimistic speculation transform what could be cliché into humorous, albeit entirely unrealistic, food-for-thought. Recommended for social commentary scifi fans seeking a quick fun read ☺

I was intrigued by so many Litizens raving about #SerialReader, so I thought I'd give it a try. I highly recommend it! It's a fun little app, and I'll probably upgrade to get the rest of the features.

Any suggestions on what I should read next?

#underthelitfluence

Caterina I just finished Carmilla, which was a fun little Gothic novella about a vampire (who is kinda lesbian), and it predates Dracula even! Good read for October! 8y
Caterina Would you recommend Youth? 8y
Eyelit Serial Reader is fantastic! I'm reading Ramona right now and am really enjoying it 8y

KCorter @Caterina Definitely! I love Isaac Asimov's short stories. 8y
bibliobliss Is this story good? I want to read it. 8y
KCorter @Readage I actually *just* finished it. Personally, I thought it was excellent. Asimov is endlessly fascinating. I also thought the children were well-written. You can tell he had children of his own. I highly recommend it. :) 8y
bibliobliss @KCorter Glad you enjoyed it 😉👍🏼 8y
