This book in one word?
Devastating.
⭐⭐⭐⭐
4 stars because it hurt to read it too much to give it 5. It's one that I would recommend you read, but with caution. 💔
@mreads I LOVE everything in my #makerswap package. I'm doing multiple posts because I can't express how much I love everything! I had to post this first, because look at the butterflies!!!

Paper Butterflies by Lisa Heathfield
I wasn't sure about this to start with. I hated reading about how June's stepmother and stepsister treated her and I remember that I nearly gave up on it for that reason. However, the unexpected ending haunted me since and that is why it is on my #AdventRecommends list!

Have mercy. This was a rough one. Abuse and punishment at its most gut wrenching.
All three of these books really represent that love is love and equality still isn‘t 100% in our world ❤️
Dh was out today so I had the chance to do some reading.
5 stars ✨
Talk about a sucker punch to the heart! Paper Butterflies was a breathtakingly terrifying, heart wrenchingly beautiful story. A story of race, abuse, lies, deception, and yet through it all- love. Readers will not be able to deny the raw emotional power this book holds. It may be fiction but it reads like a horrifying memoir. I cried so many tears reading this.

Reading this, but once again I am or will be all off kilter with my review schedule this month. Found out I‘m not going to have much reading time for the next couple of weeks due to some big changes we‘ve got going on with work and all. I‘ll try to pop in as often as I can and I will definitely be back in full swing ASAP.
Heart wrenching and lovely but so difficult to read (think The Hate U Give meets Allegedly)! Young June suffers abuse and bullying at home and school but finds solace with quirky Blister and his family. Revenge comes with a price, but forgiveness triumphs. Be prepared to ugly cry and avoid if abuse or bullying are triggers for you! All the feels😍. Out in Oct. Thanks to NetGalley
I love a good cry at 1 a.m. 😭 This seriously broke my heart. Again, if you can read books covering dark topics, like familial abuse, this is your ticket.
Thank you #NetGalley for my copy.
So much love for this book. So incredibly sad and hopeful with a clear message: Listen ♥️
June's life at home with her stepmother and stepsister is a dark one - and a secret one. Not even her father knows about it. She's trapped like a butterfly in a jar. But then she meets Blister, a boy in the woods. And in him, June recognises the tiniest glimmer of hope that perhaps she can find a way to fly far, far away. But freedom comes at a price.

Paper Butterflies was a difficult read. It was hard to stomach in parts, with detailed insights into bullying and abuse. It genuinely made me angry. And I loved it. I love reading books that are going to make me angry at people, at situations. If you don't have issues reading about abuse, I would definitely recommend.
Gripping. Couldn't put it down and had to read in one sitting!! Utterly heart wrenching and you can't help but feel you're there right alongside of June.
There's no doubt that this book is amazing. It's brave, bold, beautifully written and goes in unexpected directions, but it also made me uncomfortable. I had to force myself to pick it back up! But one thing's for sure, Lisa Heathfield is an incredibly powerful writer - a force to be reckoned with.
Tough book. Tough to read. Confronting. Disturbing. Upsetting. Anger. Dismay. All the words associated with abuse, neglect and children.
So I finished Paper Butterflies.....I had paper butterflies fluttering in my tummy. An emotional tale of an abusive childhood, growing up, friendship, love, forgiveness and choosing left or right 💕💕
