Well that was an interesting read. Some of them were just flat out weird but I did very much enjoy a few of them. They‘re perfect short stories if you‘re looking for a fast read. I really enjoyed the coldest girl in coldtown and a couple of the others. I didn‘t really find much any of them scary but they were cute little reads.

This short story collection is modern fantasy taken to a new level.

I loved some and others not as much. But it still came down to a 3 star pick for me.

My 2 favourites are Paper Cuts Scissors and The Coat of Stars

I finally have time! And light (a little too much light actually 😆)! So, with no further ado...here‘s my bounty from @ValkyrieAndHerBooks as part of the #HappilyEverAfterSwap hosted by @Chrissyreadit 🖤! I‘m posting this as I sip on a cup of that beautiful, beastly coffee — which tastes as good as it smells! I‘ve never read either of the titles you selected, I can *always* use another bookmark, & I love the woodland-themed book sleeve! Thank you!

Ddzmini Wildwood is on my tbr list let me know what you think about it 😋📖 6y
Chrissyreadit ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 6y
the.bookish.valkyrie Yay! I‘m glad you like the coffee. It came from my favorite coffee house in SLC! 6y
monalyisha @ValkyrieAndHerBooks Their branding is super-cool, too. Love the skeletons. 💀 6y

@ValkyrieAndHerBooks I‘ll post more photos either tomorrow or on Sunday (some primo glamour shots 👌🏻😉💖) but I want you to know that I just opened my #HappilyEverAfterSwap & immediately felt like the Universe was speaking to me through you.

I may have mentioned that today is the anniversary of my grandmother‘s death, so Valentine‘s Day is a difficult holiday for me. Her name was Alice. Her favorite color was yellow. She was a coffee FIEND. 💛

monalyisha @ValkyrieAndHerBooks Thank you miraculously knowing just what to pick. 6y
monalyisha @Chrissyreadit Thank you for organizing the swap! It‘s a boost when I need it. 💕 6y

Holly Black‘s “The Poison Eaters,” is my favorite short story collection. I picked it for today‘s prompt because one of my favorite of these delightfully dark tales, “In Vodka Veritas,” features a couple of potent #potions. Also pictured - my personal favorite “potion,” Matcha Latte🍵

Robothugs I love this photo! 6y

While there were some stories I didn't care for, which is to be expected with a such varied collection like this, I did especially enjoy Paper Cuts Scissors, The Coldest Girl in Coldtown, and The Land of Heart's Desire.

litenthusiast I really like Holly Black, but have never read this collection. 6y
BekaReid @litenthusiast this is the first Holly Black I've read, and I think I'll read more of her work. The Cruel Prince looks intriguing. You can borrow this one if you want 😉 6y

#ReadingResolutions @Jess7

Fairytales have always simultaneously encouraged and warned against wishful thinking. I think that duality is part of what makes them so fascinating! I thought it would be appropriate to share a couple of my favorites for #WishfulWednesday. These books will each take you on adventures, both inspiring and dangerous!

Schnoebs Uprooted is such a good book 😍 7y

#ReadingWomenMonth @thereadingwomen

Tonight, my family are "The Poison Eaters", at least as far as I'm concerned! I'm allergic to potatoes ? ? (But they smell sooo good!) This #ShortStoryCollection by Holly Black is in my top three favorite short story collections. If you're looking for some dark folklore and fairytales with a modern twist, this is the collection (and author) for you!

HotMessJess Allergic to potatoes?!? I wouldn't make it! 7y
the.bookish.valkyrie @HotMessJess I have become an avid label reader! They put potato flour and starch in everything! Even most shredded cheese! (They use potato starch to keep the cheese from clumping) It's crazy! 7y
HotMessJess If you don't mind me asking, what kind of reaction do you have?! I'm curious! 7y

the.bookish.valkyrie @HotMessJess no problem! Basically, I have a sensitivity to the alkaloid in all the nightshade veggies (potatoes, peppers, eggplant, tomatoes, and huckleberries) I've gotten used to calling it an allergy because people understand it better that way. The alkaloid exacerbates my psoriatic arthritis from a limp and some grip issues, to nearly crippling inflammation in most of my joints. (edited) 7y
DreesReads Interesting! I cannot eat bell peppers or overripe/cooked tomato skin! I don't like eggplant...and have likely never had a huckleberry. One of my boys was allergic to potatoes and tomatoes and can now eat fries and cooked tomatoes. I need to read up on this alkaloid! 7y
the.bookish.valkyrie @AudreyMorris I'm always happy to share the knowledge! My Life got so much better when I cut Nightshades out of my diet! Even though I can't eat half of my favorite foods anymore it is beyond worth it to have so much less pain and such improved mobility! 7y

Between this and Uprooted, I have clearly been in a fairytale mood! I really enjoyed listening to Holly Black narrate her own book! She's my go to gal for dark fairytales and her short stories definitely don't disappoint! You get to see some familiar faces and there are some entirely new stories. Ranging across the globe, from American towns all the way over into the Philippines, these stories will take you on a dark and lovely ride!

TheLondonBookworm I loved her spiderwick chronicles and her graphic novel the good Kin but that's all I've read- this looks grey! She writes a lot about fairy tales doesn't she. 8y
the.bookish.valkyrie @TheLondonBookworm She does! You should read her Modern Fairytales series, it's my favorite work from her! 8y
Ubookquitous Now I'm going to have to add her to the list.... Love retellings, especially dark. #blameitonlitsy 8y
BilboBookends I can't wait to read Uprooted!! 8y
