A penguin levels with human readers about what penguin life is really likeand it isnt all fun and games. A hilarious first collaboration from Jory John (All my friends are dead. and Quit Calling Me a Monster!) and Lane Smith (The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales). Have you ever considered running away to Antarctica? Of course you have! Because its a land free of worries and responsibilities! All of your problems will surely be blown away by the icy winds of that lawless paradise! . . . Wont they? Think again, my friend. This penguin has come to tell you that his life down there is no more a picnic than yours is here. For starters, it is FREEZING. Also, penguins have a ton of natural predators. Plus, can you imagine trying to find your mom in a big ol crowd of identical penguins? No, thank you. Yes, it seems there is no escaping the drudgery of your daily grind, whatever it might be. Or perhaps weve just learned that grumps are everywhere. . . . Jory John and Lane Smith let us decide. This book is sure to tickle kids funny bones and will elicit appreciative sighs from the adults reading it aloud.

Complaining too much? This book leads to the philosophy: no matter where you go, there you are. Classic Jory John humor and Lane Smith simplicity. 🐧🐧🐧🐧

Another Kohl‘s find that Lula-Belle finds delicious! This PB would be great in a classroom RT. This cranky little penguin has so much wrong in his life that he forgets to look at the good. Until, a wise walrus opens his eyes to the great around him. This could be used as a valuable lesson to appreciate what you have, not dwell on what you don‘t!

Ashley_B I would use ESOL strategy 4 (Link lesson topic to students‘ prior knowledge) for this book, along with UDL design 9.3 (Develop self-assessment and reflection). http://www.joryjohn.com 5y
DrSpalding You can now use his author study as well! I highly recommend keeping up with the Kohl‘s cares books. They are usually quality books by quality authors and you can‘t get better than five dollars for a hard back! They will last a long time in your classroom library. 4y

This Junior Library Guild award winning book is a humorous tale of a penguin that is having a rough day but ultimately discovers he is where he is supposed to be. This is a great storytelling opportunity or RA. Penguin Prob. promotes the facilitation of coping skills and strategies which is why UDL 9.2 is a principle to incorporate. Teachingbooks.net offers classroom resources. Pages 5&6 introduce a food chain learning opportunity! #UCFLAE3414SP20

Tabitha_H This would be great with ESOL strategy #17, which is to provide contextual support through audio visuals, models, demonstrations, realia, body language and facial Expressions. 5y
DrSpalding Yes to storytelling and yes to using this in your science curriculum. I‘m looking forward to what the next Kohl‘s cares books will be! Continue seeking them out. Five dollar hard backs are a great value! 4y

My first #fairyloot box is finally here! Sadly in my infinite wisdom I sent it to my parents house and not to my flat (I don‘t trust the post here) so I have to wait til next Friday when I‘m visiting them again to unpack it.
Unfortunately one of the books I ordered for #CupidGoesPostal was refunded, so I now have to find another one😬. I hope the other three box 📦 won‘t have the same problem!

This wine label looks like a picture book waiting to happen. Possibly not the most usual link though. (The linked book is also great)

nickimags Nice label was it any good? 7y

As I was packing up my cube this week, I thought I had gotten rid of a ton of books and only packed a little. Now that they have all arrived at my apartment, I realize that I didn't get rid of as many as I thought... whoops! Now to find a place to put them... #penguinproblems #ultimatebookhaul

Hollie You could send them to me if you need the space 😉 7y
Kaylamburson Haha, I will keep that in mind, @hollie. I may have to give some of them up lol 7y
litmuggle Too many books are the best kind of reader problems. 7y

If the cover of this picture book isn't enough to make you want to read it, then you will miss out on the wonderful story Jory John has given us. Penguin gets a visit from a wise walrus who puts his "problems" in perspective. Some days we could all use a wise walrus in our lives. Lane Smith's illustrations are a delight! Thank you, Penguin Random House for the copy as requested.
