A short nicely disturbing read. I like my books with shock factors in it and this definitely gave me that. This is one of the hyped up books that lived to the title. I quite enjoyed it and it reminded me of a Japanese book called In the Miso Soup. Dark. 🤘🏻

I feel conflicted because I thought it was very interesting, but I also wanted to get over with reading it. Jennette is definitely brave for putting her story out there and I‘m proud she overcame all she was went through. I appreciate her story.

A quote I really liked, “I like that I‘m able to get myself on paper. It simplifies things for me. When everything‘s in my head, it feels chaotic and jumbled.”

“I‘m off to Fantasyland.”
It‘s sad how reality can be so overwhelming and so painful, our mind adjusts to escaping and disassociates to get some relief.

Usually I post my favorite quotes throughout, but there hasn‘t been anything that stood out to me the whole time reading. Nonetheless an interesting read.
I‘m hoping to finish this book by this weekend!

It‘s been 2 years, and I‘ve missed it here. These passed 2 years have been constant major changes in my life. Opening up Litsy again made me feel so nostalgic. The books. The words. It‘s poetry and art to me. It‘s my sanctuary here; getting back to my books. 🫶🏻✨💓

I hope everyone is having a relaxing night reading. 📖

One of those books you really couldn‘t put down until it‘s done. It was a gangster thriller movie in my head. I loved Eyrie Brown‘s character, from his name to his demeanor. Toni at first, I kind of hated, but respected her as a badass. Nice twist at the end. Similar setting and plot of The Evil and the Pure, but loved it just as much.

“I needed to be a loner to survive, but I was aware that, if I didn‘t take care, I could be too much of a loner for my own good. Antisocial as I was, I did need a few friends to spend time with. Otherwise what was I surviving for?”

Starting off the day good with another Darren Dash book and an iced pineapple matcha w/ dragonfruit drink. (I treat myself to a SB matcha drink every Thursday if I can💚) I hope everyone is having a good day! ☀️

Insane. This story was such a dark twisted adventure. Really didn‘t see things coming until they came. The character development is amazing. The ending left me SHOOK. One of the longer books I‘ve read, so I added sticky notes so I don‘t forget things. Def enjoyed this read!

Yuki_Onna You made me really interested in this! Love your sticky notes! 🧡 3y

I missed you Litsy! It‘s been a whirlwind since the last time I posted anything. But I‘m happy to be back and most importantly back to my books.

This one was a recommendation from someone special who‘s a huge fan of Darren Dash. From just reading the beginning I think I might be too.

I hope everyone is having a good day! 💐

Yuki_Onna @Soytoosaucy Thank you, dear! ❤ Oh well, I have been going through a very rough time myself... 😰 Hopeless, really. But hearing from you again made my day! 😘
Is your life better/easier now than in the last months?
3y
Soytoosaucy @Yuki_Onna Oh no 😞 I am sorry to hear that... I really really really hope things get better for you. I know life is so tough sometimes but the only choice we have is to stay strong. You‘re definitely in my thoughts and you can make it through! I wouldn‘t say my life is easier but let‘s just say we have to go through some suffering to grow. Things will get better💕🌻 3y

I‘ve missed you Litsy. Here‘s a few books I‘ve picked up. Been going through some things internally and I just really need an escape. ❤️

I hope everyone is having a relaxing Sunday🍃

JonathanDunne I hear you. An Escape is always good, especially during a lockdown🧠🚪 ( the Emojis represent leaving your brain at the door or your brain exiting the door, either works. Way too obscure probably 🤗) 4y
Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne Yes this lockdown does not help all while going through a split, 2020 is the year of many struggles🙃 If only I could literally leave my brain somewhere and come get it later, would be great, 🤣🤣 Hopefully you‘re staying positive throughout this year! 🙂 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy Oh, don't get me started 😕 I don't have enough space here, but if I did, I'd ask you to pull up a chair and pour yourself a stiff drink... 4y

Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne oooff, that bad? 😟 seems like you need an escape too. Wishing you better days! 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy I just wanted an excuse to pull up a chair and have a drink 😊 Are you at Goodreads? 4y
Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne lol makes sense, I don‘t think you need an excuse for that😂😂 and I made one awhile back but not really on it too much. 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy you know I read your Litsy handle and for some reason I understood it in Spanish (I'm living in Spain now) and it has a very different concept 😂 I thought you were word playing with Spanish and English. Im only getting that it's actually soy sauce now...wait,it is soy sauce, right? 4y
Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne 🤣🤣 that‘s funny! I know very very little Spanish since I‘ve lived in Texas. It is about soy sauce, since I‘m Asian and I use soy sauce a lot 😂 nothing too deep. Do you travel a lot? That is awesome, Spain looks beautiful from pictures! 4y
JonathanDunne I know you are. You're so exotic looking! I really don't travel enough. I live in toledo spain but I am from Ireland 🇮🇪. 4y
Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne wow interesting! I‘ve never been out of the U.S., so at least you‘re getting different experiences. 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy Hmm ya, true, but 2020 has been a strange year for me, a year of realization probably. Long story. Wouldn't mind an escape like you said. Do you know of any hidden bunker where I could escape or any hole to jump down ☺️😔 4y
Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne I‘m in the same boat. 😅 I wish I knew of one.. Reading anything good lately? 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy Any free time goes into my own book I'm trying to finish these days. But I never stop smiling when I'm reading A Confederacy of Dunces. 4y
JonathanDunne And you? 4y
JonathanDunne I'm looking out my window right now and there's a full moon lighting up the whole sea. I took a picture but can't show you here, pity. It's amazing. 4y
Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne that‘s right! I just looked up your books! How amazing! Hmm, I‘m trying to get through The Woman in the Window still🤦🏻‍♀️🤣. Sounds beautiful, my view is just of other houses and palm trees. 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy she's not going to stay in the window forever 4y
Soytoosaucy @JonathanDunne have you read it? 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy no, I haven't. Could you friend me at GR if you want / have an account. I could talk to you till the cows come home, but here I'm talking to you in front of a live studio audience😅 ok, I need to 😴 goodnight. 4y
JonathanDunne @Soytoosaucy back to bug you. Insomnia. I'm thinking about soy sauce at 5 in the morning. Is it true that the Chinese use hair to make it? 4y

Horrific. I‘m only glad that the Magnificent Thirteen were able to get away alive. Showing true resilience and power. The way this was written was VERY repetitive. Overall I just didn‘t like the way it was written, but I am grateful to read the story of these brave kids.

Please Look After Mom | Kyung-Sook Shin
Mehso-so

It‘s about a mother who goes missing at the Seoul train station. It has different perspectives of the two daughters, son, and husband. It has their takes on who their mother was to them. Revealing that many took advantage and mistreated their mom, only to realize they never took the time to say all the things they wanted to say. It was sad, but I feel the story dragged and I had to force myself to finish. I also hate when I get no clear closure 😪

Yuririn Same here.. the ending is hanging but from the story it seems like the ending is already there when the mother narrates. 4y

Interesting read. What I got from this book was the internal things we struggle with that come out in various ways physically. The things that eat us up inside that manifest out. The scene of Yeong-Hye‘s father and the dog that bit her, explained a lot. Though most may read this as very bizarre, it makes a lot of sense to me. 💭

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, just because they ending was 🤷🏻‍♀️

WOW. Tiffany‘s memoir was both inspiring, heartbreaking, and hilarious all in one. Her writing is blunt and straightforward, which I really enjoyed. I pictured everything she was narrating. It reminded me so much of Orange is the New Black, but to understand that it‘s a true story blows my mind.

I was pretty much gritting my teeth the whole time rooting for Savitha&Poornima. There is such a harsh truth to this story. A story of poverty, rape, sex trafficking, domestic abuse, the selling of daughters,&the age old traditional ideals of women being inferior. But it is also a story of strong and resilient women who would do anything to protect their friendship&each other. The story was written great, but the ending gave no closure.💔

🧟‍♀️ Been obsessed with zombies since I was young and had to sneak watching and reading horror movies and books🤣

What are some of your favorite horror books and movies?! 🧟‍♀️

Yuki_Onna @Soytoosaucy favorite horror movie with zombification: Serpent and the Rainbow by Wes Craven. It's about living zombies and awesome. 🌟
fav. horror books: the Ring series and Dark Water by Koji Suzuki. dark, quiet, creeping terror... ✔
4y
Yuki_Onna @Soytoosaucy Ah, and if you love undead creatures, I highly recommend a recent release: The Undead by Johan Egerkrans. It's a beautifully illustrated encyclopaedia of undead creatures around the world. You can surely get it online somewhere. It's more about vampiric beings, (which draw on blood or life force), I'm afraid, but there are a few kinds of zombies included)... 👌 4y
Soytoosaucy @Yuki_Onna I love Wes Craven!! And all those I need to add to my stack! I‘ve watch the Ring movies but never read it. I also watched the movie called Dark Water not sure if it‘s the same story line as the book. Thanks for the recommendations going to look for The Undead now, I‘m intrigued😁 4y

Yuki_Onna @Soytoosaucy I just got the German edition of The Undead for my birthday and love it! 💕Just the kind of bestiary I enjoy. But I just discovered that Johan Egerkrans's illustrated books are ridiculously expensive in English... 😱 I wonder why??? It's much cheaper in German (although Egerkrans is Swedish...). I'll keep an eye on the English edition. I'll let you know if I find it somewhere less expensive, ok?
😊
4y
Yuki_Onna @Soytoosaucy I like the quiet terror of The Ring books. Hopefully you won't find them boring. Of course the films are more drastic and have jumpscares which the books can't deliver. But every so often I found the hair at the back of my neck stand while I was reading, and I like when a book does that...
The book Dark Water is a short story collection of horror stories which are all connected to water in some form... >
4y
Yuki_Onna The movie Dark Water is the film version of its title story. 🌊 4y
Soytoosaucy @Yuki_Onna yes I looked it up online and it‘s definitely expensive! Lol but thank you for keeping a loook out! As for The Ring series I don‘t mind it not having the jump scares that‘s actually a little better to me 🤣 so I think I‘ll give that a go. And that‘s pretty cool about Dark Water. The film wasn‘t bad so I‘d like to read more about the other stories. 4y
