I'm not pithy enough for a tagline. She/her Mostly #romantsy https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/67310619-sam-amnreader

Appallingly bad. (Not the mechanics of the writing, but the threads). Complete derivative of The Hating Game but bordered on hostile /abusive because of lack of finesse. If you loved THG, you won't likely love this. If you didn't love THG, you definitely won't like this #romantsy

(One egregious example of abuse-at least) more here: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52339915-shortcake?ac=1&from_search=true&qid...

You know how sometimes you just want to hold a book? I've finally picked up scythe again as a result. I love my e-reader, but a silver lining of home time is being able to read hard copies

In short, meh. The cold is brutal. I know what 60 below is and I'd have little will to survive let alone romance. Well written in a pace sense, but couldn't care less about the #romantsy. Too long, hate a switch of POV in final chapters.

I love Judith Ivory, and this is The Best take on Beauty & the Beast. Unfortunately, the hero is so dominant and interesting that the heroine pales a bit. 3.78

Though I have general concerns and worries right now, now that I'm able to concentrate on reading I'm having trouble not reading #allthebooks.

As usual, Judith Ivory's skill in invading every sense is immersive.

White rage was a concise, important book, outlining the root causes of racist issues/policy: white rage. Excellent case, depressing, but excellent for friends and family or those white people in one's life who might not understand that complacency and not just the KKK are also racist. Good intro to systemic racism as well.

My feelings on this were a bit complex. I think because the heroine was grating. #romantsy took a very back seat to action.

A lot of food stuff in this #romantsy that didn't have successful conflict, but had successful relationship. A sweet and emotionally unavailable hero falls for an honest/funny/brave heroine. Not an original plot, but a refreshing voice

Throwing this up bc Team Player is not yet available. Loved this organic, funny sports #romantsy about two people who love the game. It was funny, it was low angst but still made me tear up, and it showed Keyes knows her baseball. Releases 3/26

MarriedtoMrT Yes! It was great. I love Julianna Keyes. 6y

MarriedtoMrT @samnreader Just read your review. I understand how you felt and if you haven‘t yet I highly suggest you don‘t read one of her early books, Going the Distance. It has similar themes in it that didn‘t work for you in Time Served. 6y

This was a relisten for me, and there's almost no book I'd more universally recommend especially as a challenge to those who doubt the strength of #romantsy. (And certainly fewer narrators I'd recommend)

Alexis Hall is lyrical. This book is about and from the POV of a bipolar suicide survivor. It's raw, and if you can stomach that it's beautiful and funny. https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2363946208?book_show_action=false&from_rev...

Pickpick

This book delighted me (except a few typos/missing words?) By and large this is the kind of contemporary I like to read. A slowly developing and believable emotional relationship underpinning am increasingly intimate one. Getting to know both characters and their flawed families. Really, it's a lovely little book.

Heavy caution against one of her other books, Disengagement Ring, due to awful xenophobic, transphobic jokes an poor plot execution.

Ok, first litsy goes then reviews, then reading ...

And I haven't been reading. I did finish this though and it was more than I thought it would be. I also reviewed it on GR AND called it a strange blend of the Stranger and Pay it Forward...or something

Super unpopular, but I really disliked this. The humor didn't land, the heroine was hard to stomach, the hero was boringly perfect... And I can't ever see them making a relationship with the lack of chemistry.

Midsummer Moon | Laura Kinsale

With Nicholas Boulton narrating Kinsale's complex dynamics and characters, I find it hard to miss. After a zany start, two opposites grow into a relationship through that age old method of trying and compromise-with missteps and suspense along the way.

A reread of a favorite #romantsy
I don't think I've ever had the pleasure of not having one disappointment in a series--other than Kate Clayborn's Luck series. Still, not all of those are gushing 5 stars. For the main novels in Brothers Sinister, they are. And as I've said, don't ask me to pick.

Her characters fall in love quickly, but they are fully fleshed out human beings. This veteran-army-Sargent-turned security guard paired with divorced lawyer mom made for a sweet, and at times, funny, story. All-in-all a satisfying #romantsy read. A lot of this story illustrates the give and take nature between two relatively dominant personalities.

But it's just plain engaging.

Kaye It IS good to get out even on an ugly day. Maybe because it‘s an ugly day. This time of year is quite challenging to the mood-meter. Grey everywhere. It helps to get out and walk and clear your head 6y

A favorite thing to do is #audiowalk. However... I had to DNF my walk today due to creeptastastic vehicle. Even 4 #romantsy min with Nicholas Boulton is a treat though!

This sticker was too perfect. Also, not about the book. Because it's Nicholas Boulton.

samnreader @kaye yes, I was not comfortable. The car waited twice, then turned around so I ran home. I'm sure they were lost but better safe than sorry and all that 6y
Kaye Yep gotta be careful sometimes. Never can tell with folks nowadays. A guy stopped and offered me a ride home but I was just around the corner from home by then. He seemed perfectly safe. Thankfully we don‘t have much crime of any sort here. Just farmers for the most part. (edited) 6y
