I'm closing out my Litsy account. I just don't use it enough. Find me on Goodreads or hit me up on Twitter (@rwrkb)! 👊👋
I've taken to reading ebooks while I ride the stationary bike in the evenings. Started this one tonight. I love the wit in Rucker's writing.
Stewart/Riddell marathon charges along! My 8yr old gets nervous that he won't like each new one we start and them falls in love within a day or two.
Books, books, bookity books
Since I haven't been able to pick up Borne yet I'm reading a couple of VanderMeer's short ebooks.
2 editions of the same book? This is what happens when you get manic about research for a new book and order a bunch of stuff in a haze of writerly adrenaline.
Did I go overboard ordering research material? Maybe.
What a beautiful chapbook from Strangers Press in Norwich. Had to order it after Brian Evenson recommended it (he wrote the foreword).
I'm not much for note-taking or research in general, so this new project has me stretching my comfort zone in that way. Read this in nearly one sitting. Stylistically it was much different than I was expecting but still full of insight and wisdom.
Just one book left to arrive for my impending research binge.
Gathering research material for a maybe book.
With the Scavenger series now in the rearview mirror, my 8yr old and I continue our Stewart/Riddell marathon with Muddle Earth.
Aviary by Seth Berg and Bradford Wolfenden II is truly one of my favorite covers I've designed. So stoked to finally share it. This killer poetry is out now from Civil Coping Mechanisms/Artistically Declined.
Somewhere in here was the beginnings of a good book about OK Computer. Sadly it was buried deep.
The third and final Scavenger novel. Stewart and Riddell magic continues.
Book mail!
Just finished my first re-read of The Old Man in the Sea for the first time in over a decade. Still fills me with a love for words.
Onward to book two in the Scavenger trilogy. The great Stewart/Riddell marathon marches on. My 8yr old has been enthralled with their first foray into sci-fi.
Look what came in the mail! Kelli Anne Noftle is the BEST. So excited for this collection.
Loved this book as a teenager. Time to revisit it.
Another signed book in my collection. This one from my friend Joshua Mohr. He has a new one out, too. Check him out!
My 8yr old loved this book and encouraged me to read it. Great art and fun story. 👍
Another signed book. This one is a special edition hardcover from PS Publishing, which does some amazing stuff. Fun fact about Di Filippo: his brother was my Latin teacher in high school.
Snagged this audiobook for my 8yr old today. Coming to work pays off I suppose. 😜
The 8yr old and I are on to the last Far-Flung Adventure!
Another signed book. This one is a very cool bound edition of the first part of Gold's second novel. I also have a loose autograph from when I met Gold but didn't have his first novel, Carter Beats the Devil because my copy at the time had been lost in a move.
Got this tattoo five years ago today to celebrate the release of my first novel. John Dermot Woods did this badass illustration for the cover, which was a good excuse to have myself tattooed on my own arm.
Thought maybe I'd start posting pics of some of the signed books in my collection. The signed one is a sort of director's cut of YSKOV (which is below). I also have a signed copy of Egger's What Is the What.
Took a picture of this to send to a friend. Had nearly forgotten I had a signed first edition. Was one of those moments where I thought, "do I or did I make that up?"
The 8yr old and I are on to the second Far Flung Adventures book!
Binge binge binge binge binge
Book mail! I am swimming in Brian Evenson books right now. It is fantastic.
The Brian Evenson binge continues. This one was a lot different from the others I've read recently, but so intense and really damn great.
The 8yr old and I are back to our Paul Stewart/Chris Riddell marathon. Far Flung Adventures here we come!
So good! I want a tv series based on this. RIGHT NOW! Time for Netflix to get on it.
Gotta love book mail.
I doodled Count Olaf today. My 8yr old and I finished our re-read of books 1-4 just in time for the show. Can't wait to watch ep. 1 tonight!
On a total Evenson binge. Just ordered another one to get my fix, 'cause I'm almost done with this one.
Book mail! So excited for this. I have loved Mary Miller's writing from the very first sentence of her's that I read.
I roped @mjseidlinger into doing a year-long interview. Check out week one at www.interview52.tumblr.com
