I had a fantastic time speeding through this. I was very much on-board with the q&a format, it was nice to have someone to scoff with throughout the horrors. After how much Unmentionable made me want to fight the entirety of Victorian society I was expecting to leave this raring to go, but honestly parts of it made me more deeply sad than anything. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for the next time Oneill releases anything, her work is lovely

Riveted_Reader_Melissa Stacking! I loved Unmentionable too! 5y

1) The onslaught of activities! By the time the heat sets in I typically hide from the world, but for June it's lovely to have an excuse to go inner-tubing or camping
2) There are so many coming up. Magic For Liars by Sarah Gailey and Recursion by Blake Crouch both sound amazing
3) Berries
4) Apparently 34.4 °C (93.9 °F), but it's rarely that high
5) If anyone's interested, you're tagged!

So, bothering my poor best friend about this is probably going to be my evening tonight. 😅 I have a TBR pile big enough to bury myself in that I really ought to be cutting into instead, but this just came into the library after eons and technically it counts as a book I've never gotten around to reading. I'm genuinely pumped!

1) If I have something I particularly want to read I'll push it up my TBR list, but generally I just go to the bookshop/library and wander around until I find something that sounds interesting.

2) Yes, constantly. I read while navigating the treacherous city sidewalks; public transit is child's play.

Erie 3) Mostly other books and podcasts, or more commonly, having something else my subconscious desperately needs to think over post haste, apparently. My terrible hearing allows me to block out the world fairly easily, but tragically nothing can stop my mind from butting in when it wants to. 4) Tea and curry. I mean, anything I can nibble on is possible, but somehow it always comes back to that. 5) If anyone is interested, consider yourself tagged! 6y

It just occurred to me as I was returning this that I never got around to stating how much I enjoyed reading it, but I very much did. It's an endless barrage of truly horrifying facts that had me ranting to my friends for days afterward told in arguably the best way to get through without losing your mind: unrelenting sarcasm.

I had a good time rereading this for a book club. Still not one of my absolute favourites, but it's still a nice quick read

I really enjoyed this! I was a bit apprehensive going in, but once the story got going and the party had assembled, I really grew to like spending a few hours with them. I'm a sucker for anything that has lgbt+ characters and fantasy troupes, honestly. I'm picking up their next one as soon as it gets to the library. Hopefully it will be as fun as this one ended up.

This book was just lovely. I was a bit worried at first that it might be brilliant writing about how wonderful Plato was, as I spent a good deal of my childhood wanting to punch him in the face. In actuality though, this was a fantastic deconstruction of the whole concept of a Just City. I read a review that it was more thought experiment than story, but frankly that's precisely what I liked about it. I can't wait to start the next one.

I've been meaning to get to this book for ages. I enjoyed her Small Change series immensely (in as much as anyone could enjoy that, I suppose. I was heavily invested in it at least), and this one is all about ✨philosophy✨ and how it influences and changes humanity. I'm so excited to rush toward my commute so I can get started!

Ultimately this was just not my sort of thing. I love the idea of applying comic levels of ridiculous to a murder mystery, but the way the case played out drove me crazy and the protagonist felt like a member of a side of fandom I try not to engage with if possible. The number of times non-fannish people were referred to as 'muggles' alone was almost enough to make me snap. I can absolutely see it working for others, it just wasn't my style.

I'm a few pages in and- this might not be my thing? I'm a nerdy woman who grew up adoring comics and cosy mysteries, so I thought that this would be a joy, but between the weirdly condescending way the main character talks about people outside of fandom and the constant random references, this feels far too much like Ready Player One to appeal to me. Hopefully it'll get better once the mystery amps up though

I've finished; it was just such an enchanting, genuinely fun fairy tale. I grew up inhaling Diana Wynne Jones and Patricia C. Wrede books, and nothing I've read in ages has reminded me so firmly of those as this book did. 10/10, would happily give to all of my fantasy-inclined loved ones.

Today's book off of my challenge list. I'm having a much better time of it than the last one, thankfully. So far this is all about people helping one another through truly horrible times, and watching the protagonist slowly build herself a life, both of which are things I am all about.

wellreadredhead I sent you a quick email about the bibliophile book exchange if you can get back to me asap! Thanks! 7y

I chose this for my first postal book club choice as an excuse to push it up my TBR list, and so far that seems like the best possible choice. The way it jumps styles meshes really well with summer reading, and it's just the right sort of silly horror/teen mystery to keep me interested.

candority Hey! Do you want to exchange email addresses or some form of contact so we can get to know each other for our book exchange?! 😊 7y

I really enjoyed this one! It was just so charming, and the characters were lovely. Truly, it had it all. Magical promise! Horrible archaic commities! Social injustice! Ineffective finishing schools! Besides, it's hard to go wrong with a story that starts off with someone not wanting to fulfill a promise to their terrifying aunt.

This really wasn't my sort of book. The plot definitely had potential, but the characters were almost as a whole neither interesting or well-rounded enough to overlook what abysmal people they were. I don't mind reading about absolute monsters, but at the very least I need them to be people I'd want to spend a few hours with.

Also, honestly, the cruise dynamics tripped me up a bit. Very little of what they did felt like it was on a cruise.

I enjoyed this book immeasurably. It might have been the late hour or my utter glee at the story as it unfolded, but any book that sucks me in enough that I don't even notice how far in I am until I've suddenly reached the end is so /rare/; just from that, this book has so much of my respect.

I think I might use this for my LGBTAQ+ romance #summerflingread book, because why not.

I wasn't expecting it, but this book was a genuine delight. The main group of characters came across as so /young/ for what they were living through, and the framework reminded me of how much I used to adore Chosen One and disaster-course public school narratives. It was like taking a holiday to visit my inner 14 year old in the best possible way; 10/10, would recommend.

One of my favourite podcasts, Teen Creeps is going to be finishing off the trilogy of ten-year-old me's heart on Wednesday. So, I figure today is the perfect time for a reread! I'm 30% into The Hunter and so far it's holding up extremely well. I'm a little more skeptical about some of Jenny's choices, and apparently time has not granted me even the slightest interest in Tom's general existence, but there's so much to like!

Aaaaand this is the point when horror movie violins started playing in my mind.

I'm only a bit into the excerpt, but this book is amazing so far. It's like being strapped to a chair and made to watch history destroy these people in slow-motion: everything is going well for the girls in question and yet I'm already terrified.
