Listened to this on Audiobook which was perhaps not the best format, but I am giving it 4 stars. Narration was terrific but would probably want to reference lists and such later on, which would be better in a physical copy. Great suffesfuon for managing the house though!

I really enjoyed this book I received from Netgalley. I laughed so much I almost forgot I was actually learning tips and strategies for making my life look a little bit more how I'd like it to look. An easy read, full of sarcastic cuss word laden prose...but definitely a pick for me. 4 stars for sure.

I gave this one 4 stars. I don't read a lot of YA, but this one had me laughing throughout. Very Princess Bride-esque. You think you know the story of Lady Jane Grey, but you don't know it like this!!

The Year We Turned Forty: A Novel | Liz Fenton, Lisa Steinke
post image
Pickpick

I have really loved how Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke's books are classic chick lit with a supernatural twist, and this one is no different. 3 best friends get the chance to relive their 40th year over again and try to change it for the better...but the changes don't quite go as expected. I gave it 4 stars...it would make a great book club selection.

The Elementals | Michael McDowell

I read The Elementals for my book club this month and it was a great Southern Gothic Horror book, which was a nice change from my self help and chick lit books recently. It was nice and slow going and then BAM people are eating eyeballs and crap. GREAT book. It was published in 1981, and if you haven't read it, you should.

I give this one 4 stars. It does have some great info, and it's all from a very matter-of-fact voice...but it does go a bit wooo-wooo towards the end. I take issue with the whole, buy a fancy car and then the money to pay for it will come into your life philosophy because I think that could be very dangerous for a lot of people. But all in all, I did get a lot out of this book, so it's definitely a pick for me.

Although the book could've used a better editor, this book was incredibly inspiring and has lit a fire under my ass in regards to starting my days off better. Great book for the New Year!

Karen.reads I agree. Lots of typos and other errors, but I found it really inspiring! 8y

I really enjoyed this story of Shelby, who gets in a car accident as a teen that leaves her best friend in a coma. She takes a nose dive into despair drugs and general discontent. The book follows as she slowly and grumpily builds her life back up. I gave it a 4 star review on the blog.

JenniferJR One of my favorites I read this year! 8y

I give this one 3.5 stars. Maria Semple is great at writing quirky women, and Eleanor is definitely quirky. Her bad day on steroids is one for the record books. It's a quick and easy read.

Eh, I wanted to like this more than I did. To me it had a whole lot of filler, although it was well written.

This wasn't nearly as good as the original, and it took me a bit to get into. But I did enjoy visiting these characters again. I give it 3 stars...maybe 3.5!

This debut novel was amazing. I am so grateful to Netgalley and Random House for sending it to me to review.
The story of Sharon and Mel, best friends and business partners who make animated films. It is hip, fresh and has some fabulous lesbian characters. Definitely one of the best books I have read this year.

I really enjoyed the Journal entries in this, but there was a lot of odd filler. But it was great getting more insight into Carrie Fisher and her experiences with Harrison Ford.

I loved this...4 1/2 Stars! A great historical fiction novel about a girl who claims she's living off manna from God, and the nurse sent to watch her to see if she's telling the truth or not. I highly recommend it!

This memoir about Edie Wadsworth and her relationship with her alcoholic father, growing up in poverty-stricken Appalachia was good but lacked that special something. I think her voice was just so matter of fact, it made the stories lack some of the punch they should've had. But I give it a solid 3.5 stars.

Finally finished Jennifer Weiner's memoir Hungry Heart. I'm not sure why it took me so long to read it. My biggest issue was having just read the anniversary edition of Good In Bed, which was heavily based on her life. Portions felt like I had just read them. But I think it was a solid memoir of a writer who has always struggled with her weight.

I really enjoyed this book about Annabelle McKay and her 28 year marriage to slightly boring Grant...and her thoughts and remembrances of the hot guy who got away. Maddie Dawson writes such smart and sassy women. I am a huge fan.

I give this one a solid 3 1/2 stars. Leah is a good Southern girl with an alcohol problem, this is the story of her time in rehab and the repercussions. The ending left a lot to be desired though. Full review on my blog!

This book truly resonated with me. It was so raw and vulnerable, and I highlighted tons of passages! I wrote a strange rambling review on my blog because I don't think I have quite processed my feelings yet!

The Light of Paris | Eleanor Brown

I didn't set out to lose myself. No one does, really. No one purposely swims away from the solid, forgiving anchor of their heart. We simply make the tiniest of compromises, the smallest of decisions, not realizing the way those small changes add up to something larger until we are forced, for better or worse, to face the people we have become.
