An odd book. I have no idea why anyone would think to make a movie from it. I'm going to read the next one and hopefully it's better.

Funny and factual. A great short read for anyone interested in cults.

I was so surprised and overjoyed to see Josė Saramago's novel Blindness included in this fun little coffee table book. I'm part Portuguese and this book was one of few I could find from Portuguese authors when I began explore more about my cultural heritage. It should be more well known!

This book was published in in 1980, four years before I was born. I borrowed a hard back copy from the library and the first thing I noticed was you could buy a hard back book in 1980 for $10.95!
"I came here in search of peace and quiet. The world down there is too damn frustrating!"
A good book, in my opinion, but not the stand out I was expecting from other reviews. Interesting but I didn't feel much tension as much of the foreshadowing actually revealed plot points much to easily. Though it was a short book it still felt as if the story wandered about needlessly.
"They were so dead-set on naturalizing themselves, and her especially, that it was always English, English, English."
My father absolutely refused to allow us to learn Spanish growing up. He forbade my Grandmother and Auntie from teaching us. He'd yell at us if we spoke any Spanish. He wanted his #biracial children to pass for white in every way possible.
"God lets it happen, and when we say "I don't understand," God replies "I don't care."
The second book by King that explores the nature of faith and how God regards His creations. The first was Desperation, the only novel of King's to give me nightmares. My Grandfather, Catholic all his life, told me when I was young that I could pray with all the pain and fear and love in my heart and soul but most often God's answer is "indifferently no".
Allergies have me down with wheezing and headaches. So I got my reading buddy and am curled up with my Kindle.
Got my teru teru bōzu all ready for tomorrow. Few things are better than reading in bed on a rainy day with a cuddly pet.
I love and identify with Gudetama.
This is one of my favorite series but a lot of people stop after the first book because of the sexism. Japan is a very sexist country. The female characters change their behavior to maximize their chances in a society that is against them. The authors are not sexist themselves, I think. I've read a lot of their work. They are pointing out a negative of Japanese society and show how women in Japan must play the system.
Who is 'K'? What does the cult want? What will Falcon hack next?
Who is the mole? Who is a friendly? Who will have to die to figure it out?
A very disorganized book. It includes no new information about the crimes.
A really good book with a great wrap around narrative.
An okay book. Not as good as The Troop or The Deep but an okay read. An odd constancy is that Micah never uses a contraction when speaking. Did anyone else noticed that?
A pretty good book but is not demanding my interest the way "The Troop" and "The Deep" did. I'll about 66% done so we'll see how it goes.
Read The Little Prince again last night. A favorite from childhood because it is so subversive towards grown-ups who have forgotten what is a true matter of consequence.
Quiet Houses is one of my all time favorite books. It's an anthology within a novel and the writing is superb. I think this book and Simon Kurt Unsworth don't get enough attention! Case in point, no one has reviewed this book before me. Such a shame...
I started this book months ago when it first was published but it got buried in the pile and forgotten about. Let's give it another go!
Romanji: 3-gatsu no Lion. English translation: March Comes in like a Lion by Chia Umino. I have never read Umino-san's Honey and Clover which she is most famous for but I probably will because I love Lion so much. An often bittersweet story of the difficulties of growing up with lots of shogi thrown in.
Finished my year challenge to read 275 books last week. Now I'm up to 281 books for this year. Yay books!
My reading buddy has checked under the bed for monsters. Good to go! #corgireads
Loved the fan translation of this light novel when I read it years ago. The official English translation is good. There are some phrases that were specific in the fan translation and anime that are different in the official translation. The anime is also heart breaking and wonderful. The anime is available in English and is named Shinsekai Yori in Japanese. I'm glad light novels are catching on in the US.
Got the English translation of volume one as soon as the ebook was available. A solid translation (I can mostly read the Japanese text) and a great addition along side the anime.
I love and relate so well! A fantastic collection.
What started out as a monster story quickly became one about an EVIL corporation. While Evil Corp was dealt with monster never was. Particularly boring, this book featured a cast of uninspiring characters that I couldn't care about. The constant shoehorning of a romantic subplot was terrible. My second book from Mr. Keene I like it no better than the first and do not feel compelled to pursue any of his other writings.
I don't want to bail on this book when I'm 70% done but some really stupid stuff is going on. I mean, seriously? Are they really doing this?
At times I find this book to be highly distressing. It delves deeply into what can only be rightly described as medical atrocities that have taken place over the course of human history. I find myself often thinking as I read that had I been born two decades earlier I might have been the victim of a forced lobotomy. But those who don't know history after all.
Uh...hello. My name is SpookyBoogie and I have a problem. I...I can't stop starting new books even though I haven't finished what I'm currently reading. I hear them call out to me, "Read me! Read me!" And I do!

It has a good build up but often stalled out in long chapters. Far too many characters for any to experience any growth or to become important to the readers. And the ending was just awful.
