I really liked this! I had picked up YEARS ago as a teen and never really finished it, I‘m so glad I have now. This has got magic, boarding schools and mystery, and my heart. I will definitely be continuing in the series straight away. Only thing I didn‘t care for was the “romance” but I can forgive it since I really enjoyed everything else.

Pieces of Her | Karin Slaughter

Y‘all don‘t know how much it kills me to say this: but I was disappointed in this book. I love everything else I have read from Karin Slaughter and couldn‘t wait to sink my teeth into this book. In the end it just didn‘t wow me and take my breath away the way her others did. It wasn‘t a bad book by any means but it just didn‘t live up to her others.

This was pretty creepy and I really enjoyed it. I liked that it‘s an interesting perspective and of course that it‘s #ownvoices overall well done, I just wish it were a bit longer and the characters a bit more fleshed out. Overall definitely recommend consuming it over a polar vortex like I did for the extra creepy feel.

This book had potential to stand out amongst the other types in such a similar vein, and I will say some parts were well done. However, I kept waiting for the twists to be more shocking or grand than they were, and ultimately the ending greatly disappointed me. I think this just didn‘t go far enough for me. Overall just ok, and not enough to stand out in a sea of mediocre thrillers.

Excuse me while I mope about my inevitable book hangover, this book tore me to pieces and I loved every second of it!

Morally grey characters ✔️
Hate to love relationship ✔️
Lush, fantastical and dark world ✔️

This may well be my favorite series right now and I need book 3 ASAP!

Finally finished my re read before book 2! Which I cannot wait to sink my teeth into. This certainly did not disappoint, it‘s just as darkly beautiful as I remember.

This is a powerful story, it made me so angry at times, happy and incredibly sad. It was very well written, however, it also bored me. The first portion of it was dedicated to so much hockey talk I almost turned it off. My advice is: stick through it even if you‘re like me and don‘t care about hockey, it‘s worth it. These characters felt real, honest and raw and the story both incredibly heartbreaking and uplifting.

style_create_learn Same! I almost stopped reading. It was so repetitive about the hockey town stuff. I‘m glad I finished for the same reasons as you! 6y

Making my way through this in preparation for when I receive my copy of The Wicked King. B&N doesn‘t ship until the publication date and I‘m trying to be patient 😫 I am also annotating this time so I have an easier time remembering what happens in series! Do you annotate your books?

Shley9225 I never get tired of looking at the gorgeous hardback for this book. Can‘t wait to see what TWK‘s looks like. Also no, I don‘t annotate books. I find it‘s too much work :/ 6y

I enjoyed this!

It‘s a nice character study with great writing. I was not disappointed in this least and it definitely kept me reading (rather listening). I did find it just a touch slow and times and it didn‘t seem to have the same gravity to it as Everything I Never Told You, and didn‘t seem to effect me as much. However overall it‘s a pretty good read and I would recommend if it‘s something that interests you.
