Not enough story. Could have been a novella.
I don't really know what to say about this book. It was interesting enough to finish but I ended up skimming the last 50 pages or so. Some of it was difficult to read - the abuse of these children, but it gave an interesting insight into how molesters groom their prey.
I ended up skimming the last 1/3 to finish it. It was ok but ultimately I lost interest. I felt like the interesting part of the story (the relationship with the father) was really undeveloped.
After all the hype I was expecting more. I thought is was just ok.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Four stars on this one. I mostly enjoyed it but thought the last 1/4 of the book seemed to drag. Otherwise it was a thoughtful look into some personal lives amongst the AIDS epidemic.
SO SO SO SO GOOD! Best book I've read in a long time. I just got completely lost in the characters' stories. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I like a story that starts with an event and then goes back in time with all the characters to find out how they all got there.
Such a wonderful writer! And I learned about a time and place in history that I had no idea about.
I thought this was ok. The most amazing thing was that it was written by a man. He seemed to get most of the girl friendship thing.
Good book. Interesting story that touches on a lot of social issues through the eyes of a social worker.
I bailed. Just couldn't get into the navel gazing on this one.
I learned a few things from a world that I knew nothing about. The descriptions of art plus the descriptions of forging art were very interesting. Plus there was a good plot with a twist.
Though it felt a bit disjointed at times, I enjoyed this book. Like many news stories these days you often miss out on the personal stories behind the headlines. This book reminds you that there are real lives behind the news.
Playing hooky with a book today. Really enjoying this one so far.
I haven't read Mieville before but this got a ton of buzz so here I go!
This was a good read with a great twist at the end - though I think I should have seen it coming!
In the mood for a bit of a thriller and I've never read Nicci French before.
This was a good book but I was oddly disappointed with the ending. It felt trite to me.
Beautiful prose. Love the Chinese history and calligraphy mixed in.
Sick day in bed with a book I picked up at the CBC book sale. Has anyone read this?
Not as good as her newest but still solid. I kept seeing this as a movie with sexy 1920s clothing and dark speakeasies. She does immerse you in the time period.
As recommended by Miss Liberty and since I really enjoyed her second book "THREE MARTINI LUNCH"
Anna Quindlen is always a safe bet. 1/3 of the way through and she's not disappointing me.
Next up for me. I've seen some great recommendations and so far I'm digging the writing.
Really liked this book. Wonderful writing, great atmosphere and then a gripping story of love and betrayal. Two thumbs up👍🏼👍🏼
Great characters and descriptions of life among expats in Hong Kong.
If you liked Narcos on Netflix you will love this.
